Ghaziabad witnessed a deeply disturbing incident in the early hours of Tuesday when three minor sisters allegedly jumped to their deaths from the ninth floor of their residential apartment. The tragedy unfolded in the Loni area under the Tila Mod police station limits and has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to police officials, the incident occurred around 2:15 am on February 4. Authorities received a distress call informing them that three girls had jumped from the balcony of a high-rise building in Bharat City. Police and emergency services rushed to the spot, where the girls were found lying in critical condition.
ACP Atul Kumar said the injured girls were immediately taken to a nearby hospital with the help of a 108 ambulance. Despite medical efforts, doctors declared all three dead on arrival. The victims were identified as Pakhi, aged 12, Prachi, aged 14, and Vishika, aged 16.
Family members and neighbours described the sisters as extremely close-knit. They reportedly shared almost every part of their daily routine, including studying, eating, attending school, and sleeping together. Their sudden and tragic deaths have left the family shattered and the neighbourhood in disbelief.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident may have been triggered by a dispute at home over online gaming. Police sources indicated that the girls had developed an addiction to online games during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were reportedly engaged in a task-based online game, often referred to as a “Korean love game.”
Over time, their excessive gaming allegedly began affecting their academic routine, and they were said to be irregular in attending school. On the night of the incident, their parents reportedly objected to their gaming habits, following which the girls allegedly took the extreme step.
Police have begun a detailed investigation to establish the exact sequence of events. Statements of family members, neighbours, and others close to the family are being recorded. Electronic devices used by the girls have also been seized for examination to better understand their online activities.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the impact of online gaming addiction on minors. Mental health experts stress the importance of parental awareness, emotional communication, and early intervention when children show signs of behavioural changes or dependency on digital platforms.
As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of three young lives has sparked a wider conversation about mental health, digital safety, and the unseen pressures faced by children in an increasingly online world.
