Four Arrested After Youth Shot During Clash in Kasol, SIT Formed to Probe Incident

A violent altercation in Himachal Pradesh’s popular tourist destination Kasol has sparked concern among local residents and visitors alike after a young man was shot in the leg during a clash involving a group of tourists from Punjab. The incident, which took place in the Manikaran police station area of Kullu district, has led to the arrest of four accused persons, while police continue their search for another suspect believed to be involved in the case.

Four Arrested After Youth Shot During Clash in Kasol, SIT Formed to Probe Incident

According to Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal, the confrontation occurred on Saturday when a dispute broke out between local residents and a group of individuals who had arrived from Amritsar. While the exact cause of the altercation is still under investigation, police officials say the situation escalated rapidly, resulting in the use of a firearm.

During the clash, a local resident identified as Yuvraj sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Eyewitnesses in the area reported panic and chaos after the sound of gunfire echoed through the locality. Residents immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and initiated emergency action.

Law enforcement officials acted swiftly and managed to apprehend four suspects shortly after the incident. Police teams also recovered the weapon allegedly used in the shooting. During preliminary questioning and verification, investigators reportedly found that the accused did not possess a valid license for the firearm. The recovery of the weapon is being viewed as a crucial piece of evidence that could help investigators establish the sequence of events and determine individual roles in the incident.

The injured youth was initially provided medical assistance before being referred to AIIMS Bilaspur for advanced treatment. Officials confirmed that Yuvraj’s condition is stable and that he remains under medical supervision. Family members and local residents have expressed relief that the injury was not life-threatening, although concerns remain over the growing trend of violent disputes involving firearms.

Police have also seized two vehicles believed to be connected to the accused individuals. The vehicles are expected to undergo detailed examination as investigators attempt to gather additional evidence. Forensic teams may also inspect the vehicles to determine whether they contain any material relevant to the case.

The incident has drawn significant attention across Kullu district, particularly because Kasol is internationally known as one of Himachal Pradesh’s most visited tourist destinations. Nestled in the Parvati Valley, the town attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists throughout the year. Local residents have often emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region, given its dependence on tourism.

Senior police officials have assured the public that every aspect of the case is being thoroughly examined. To ensure a comprehensive investigation, an SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been constituted under the supervision of the DSP Headquarters. The team has been tasked with examining all possible angles, including the origin of the dispute, the source of the firearm, the involvement of each accused, and whether additional individuals played a role in the incident.

Investigators are currently collecting statements from witnesses, reviewing available evidence, and tracing the movements of all persons involved before and after the clash. Police are also working to locate another accused individual who remains absconding. Raids and search operations are underway, and officials say efforts are being intensified to bring every person connected to the incident before the law.

Authorities have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Legal experts note that if the allegations regarding the illegal possession and use of a firearm are established during the investigation, the accused could face serious charges in addition to those related to the violent altercation.

The shooting has once again highlighted concerns regarding the unlawful possession of weapons and the risks posed by escalating personal disputes. Residents of the area have called for strict action against those responsible and have urged authorities to ensure that such incidents do not affect the image of the peaceful hill destination.
