According to police sources, the brutal killing unfolded after a heated domestic dispute, possibly triggered by a long-standing property disagreement related to land in Dandeli, Karnataka. Pallavi allegedly blinded her husband with chilli powder before stabbing him multiple times, leading to his death on the spot. His lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood on the ground floor of their three-storey home.

The Shocking Confession

After committing the crime, Pallavi is said to have made a video call to a friend, calmly stating, “I have killed the monster.” Her daughter, Kriti, who was reportedly present in the house during the incident, has also been taken into custody for questioning.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that the couple had frequent arguments in recent months. On the fateful day, things escalated beyond control.

Mental Health Under the Scanner

Initial findings indicate that Pallavi was undergoing treatment for schizophrenia. However, police are currently verifying whether her mental health condition contributed to the crime. Notably, Pallavi had visited the local police station earlier to file a complaint, but when her concerns weren’t addressed, she staged a sit-in protest outside the station—a sign of escalating personal tensions.

Who Was Om Prakash?

Om Prakash, a respected 1981-batch IPS officer hailing from Champaran, Bihar, was known for his dedication and integrity in the police service. Holding a master’s degree in Geology, he began his career as an Additional SP in Harapanahalli.

Over his distinguished career, he served in several districts including Shivamogga, Ballari, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. He assumed office as Karnataka’s Director General of Police (DGP) on March 1, 2015, and retired in 2017. Apart from his tenure as DGP, he played pivotal roles in the Fire and Emergency Services, Home Guards, CID, Lokayukta, and the Vigilance Cell. He was also involved in investigating the high-profile 1993 Bhatkal communal riots.

Investigation Ongoing

The Bengaluru police are currently conducting a thorough investigation, exploring all angles—including mental health, domestic violence, and property disputes. Pallavi and her daughter remain in custody as interrogations continue.

As this case unfolds, it has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community and raised urgent questions about mental health support and domestic conflict resolution.
