University of Iowa basketball standout Caitlin Clark has announced that she will not be donning an Iowa Hawkeyes jersey for much longer, revealing her decision to enter the WNBA draft this spring. In a statement on Thursday, Clark expressed her excitement about participating in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Despite emphasizing that her current season with Iowa is ongoing and filled with additional goals to accomplish, she acknowledged it would be her final one with the Iowa team.

As the recent record-holder for the all-time NCAA women’s scoring, Clark conveyed her gratitude to everyone who has supported her throughout her basketball journey at Iowa, including teammates, coaches, trainers, staff, University of Iowa fans, and supporters nationwide, especially the young fans. She extended her appreciation to friends and family, emphasizing that her dreams have come true due to their unwavering support.

The WNBA draft is scheduled for April 15, concluding after the college basketball season. The NCAA women’s basketball champion will be determined on April 7 in Cleveland, setting the stage for the draft.

The Indiana Fever holds the first pick in the upcoming draft.

Caitlin Clark, a senior, solidified her position as the all-time career points leader among women playing for major colleges by scoring 33 points against Minnesota on Wednesday. She surpassed the previous record held by Kansas great Lynette Woodard, who scored 3,650 points. Woodard’s achievement occurred from 1977 to 1981, during a time when women’s sports were governed by the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women.

Caitlin Clark is on the verge of becoming the highest-scoring NCAA basketball player ever, just 17 points away from Pete Maravich’s record of 3,667 points. The Associated Press’ player of the year last season, Clark consistently delivers remarkable performances, averaging 32 points per game. Throughout this season, she has scored 40 or more points at least four times.

Standing at 6 feet tall, the West Des Moines guard not only excels in scoring but also contributes over 8 assists per game. This month, Clark achieved a significant milestone by recording her 1,000th assist, making her the sixth woman in college basketball history to achieve this feat.

Known for drawing crowds and selling out venues, Clark’s impact extends beyond the court. Despite being a senior, she still had another year of eligibility if she chose to use it. With her team standing at 24-4, both Clark and her teammates are undoubtedly aiming for a national title. Last year, they reached the NCAA title game, ultimately losing to LSU.
