Delhi Election 2025: BJP Declares First Candidate List; Main Battles Taking Shape

BJP Declares First Candidate List: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday declared the first list of candidates for the much-awaited Delhi Assembly elections that are scheduled to take place in February 2025. In the list announced, the BJP has fielded candidates for 29 out of the total 70 assembly constituencies, leading to high-profile battles across the national capital.

Highlights of Contests

A key BJP leader, Parvesh Verma has been fielded from the New Delhi constituency against Aam Aadmi Party chief and incumbent MLA Arvind Kejriwal. It is considered one of the main electoral battles, which the political observers have kept a close watch on.
Ramesh Bidhuri will contest against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in Kalkaji. It is yet another important electoral battle. Another newcomer to the BJP, Kailash Gehlot, has been fielded from Bijwasan, and the party campaign has gained momentum further.

In Karol Bagh, BJP has nominated Dushyant Gautam, while Manjinder Singh Sirsa will contest from Rajouri Garden. Ravindra Singh Negi has been announced as the candidate from Patparganj, and Arvinder Singh Lovely will represent the party in Gandhi Nagar.

AAP’s Preparedness

The AAP, in pursuit of the third term on office, has already announced its candidates for all 70 seats. Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal is contesting the seat from New Delhi, whereas Chief Minister Atishi is standing from Kalkaji. Saurabh Bharadwaj is contesting from Greater Kailash with an emphasis that the party remains confident about regaining its bastions.

Congress Eyes Revival

Meanwhile, it is trying hard to regain a foothold on the Delhi politics scene. On this count alone, the Congress has made one of its finest moves by making Alka Lamba contest the Kalkaji seat against Atishi. So, the idea is to start winning back strongholds that helped the party over the years during electoral drought.

Political Rhetoric Heats Up

BJP’s campaign face, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, attacked Kejriwal for extravagance. “Your Sheesh Mahal, Kejriwal,” Shah said criticizing the Delhi Chief Minister for ‘wasting tax money’. He was addressing an election rally during which he reminded Kejriwal that: “Kejriwal ji, you have to answer before the people of Delhi.”

The elections for all three major political parties are crucial. AAP is looking to extend its dominance and cement its governance model; BJP is fighting to end a 20-year wait for power in Delhi, and Congress is fighting for revival and relevance.

Delhi has locked itself up for one of its most scorching electoral battles ahead, given the ferocious campaigns and high-stakes battles in some key constituencies. That will land the party into a political showdown that may redefine the future of the national capital as the February polls approach.
