An 11,000-volt high-tension electricity wire fell into a field in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, killing a father and his son who were working nearby. The tragedy has triggered anger among local residents, who blocked a highway and demanded action against those responsible for the incident as well as compensation for the bereaved family.

The victims have been identified as Janardan Yadav and his son Rajesh. According to the information available, both were present in the field when the high-tension wire suddenly fell and came into contact with them. The powerful electric current proved fatal, leaving the two dead in the tragic incident.

The death of Rajesh has added another layer of grief to the tragedy. He had reportedly cleared the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission, or UPSSSC, examination for the post of Sub-Inspector and had recently become a police officer. His family and the local community were reportedly looking forward to his new career, making his sudden death particularly devastating.

News of the deaths quickly spread through the area, prompting anger and protests among local residents. People gathered at the site and blocked the highway, demanding accountability from the electricity department. The protesters also sought financial compensation for the victims’ family and urged authorities to take immediate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The situation became more emotional when Ketki Singh, the BJP MLA from Bansdih, reached the spot following the deaths and the ensuing protest. In an emotional scene, they held on to the MLA and cried as they sought help and justice after losing two members of their family.

The grieving family members’ reaction reflected the scale of the loss. Within a short span of time, the family had lost both a father and a son. For Rajesh’s family, the tragedy was made even more painful by the fact that he had only recently achieved a major milestone by clearing the Sub-Inspector examination.

The MLA then took up the issue directly with officials present at the site. She called the executive engineer, commonly known as the XEN, to the location and reportedly took him by the hand toward the spot where the accident had occurred. She then instructed him to immediately call the junior engineer, or JE, to the scene.

The intervention came amid growing anger over the incident and demands for accountability from the electricity department. The presence of senior officials at the site was seen as an attempt to address the concerns of the victims’ family and local residents, who wanted immediate action rather than assurances alone.

The highway blockade by angry residents also highlighted the wider public concern over the incident. Such protests often reflect frustration over alleged lapses in infrastructure maintenance and the fear that similar accidents could happen again. For people living in rural areas, electricity lines often run close to agricultural fields, homes and roads, making regular maintenance and timely repairs crucial for public safety.
