New Delhi, January 8, 2025 – In a dramatic political twist in the run-up to the 2025 Delhi Assembly polls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of instructing its seven Members of Parliament (MPs) to assist in the formation of false votes in the New Delhi constituency.
The allegation was made by Kejriwal a day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar categorically dismissed claims of voter deletion and asserted the impossibility of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) rigging. “According to sources, the BJP, also referred to as the ‘Gaali Galauj Party,’ has assigned its seven MPs a target to create fake votes in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly constituency,” Kejriwal wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He further added that Delhi Chief Minister Atishi would meet the CEC for a discussion of the matter. “Atishi ji has sought time to meet the Chief Election Commissioner. We hope the meeting will take place soon,” he added.
Kejriwal’s accusations arrived just a day when CEC Kumar defended the integrity of elections in India saying, “There is no proof of unreliability or some drawback in EVMs. High Courts as well as Supreme Court have deemed them reliable, and their validity has been repeatedly upheld in the judgments.” In his words EVMs “are fool-proof devices for counting”.
He clarified that allegations of tampering were without a basis and the Election Commission would comment on such allegations only when the elections are not underway to avoid political controversy.
This is not the first time Kejriwal has raised a question about the voter roll. He had accused the BJP of trying to eliminate valid voters from the New Delhi constituency, which he is likely to contest against BJP’s Parvesh Verma.
Election Schedule
The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections are on February 5 and the result will be announced on February 8.
As the political war intensifies, the charges have only heightened the war of words between AAP and BJP, both of whom leave no stone unturned to gain a win in the high-stakes polls.
