Amul Milk Prices Hike: Amul has increased milk prices by ₹2 per litre on all major variants starting May 1, 2025. Know the updated Amul milk rates and the reason behind this hike.

Amul Milk Price Hike From May 1: Full Details Inside
In a move that will impact millions of households across India, Amul, the country’s leading dairy brand, has announced a price hike of ₹2 per litre on all its major milk variants, effective May 1, 2025. This decision comes just a day after Mother Dairy also revised its milk rates, citing rising input costs and record-breaking heat conditions across several regions.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns the Amul brand, stated that the price revision is a routine market correction aimed at supporting farmers amid surging feed and transportation expenses.
New Amul Milk Prices Effective May 1, 2025
The hike affects both 500 ml and 1-litre packs of popular Amul milk variants, including:

- Amul Gold – Now ₹67 per litre
- Amul Taaza – Now ₹61 per litre
- Amul Standard Milk – Now ₹64 per litre
- Amul Slim n Trim – Now ₹61 per litre
- Amul Cow Milk – Now ₹63 per litre
- Amul Buffalo Milk – Now ₹66 per litre
- Amul Chai Mazza – Now ₹54 per litre
For 500 ml packs, prices have been revised proportionally, increasing by ₹1 per pack.
Why the Hike in Amul Milk Prices?
According to GCMMF officials, the decision was made to ensure that dairy farmers receive a fair and sustainable return for their milk. The extreme summer heat has also caused a dip in milk production, while the cost of animal feed, packaging, energy, and logistics has gone up significantly in the past few months.
“Around 80% of the retail price goes directly to the milk producers. This hike helps support our 36 lakh farmer families,” said an official spokesperson from GCMMF.
Heatwave, Inflation and Milk Supply: A Triple Blow
The timing of this hike is crucial as India is currently battling a severe heatwave, especially in northern states like Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Consumers are already under pressure due to soaring prices of vegetables, LPG, and daily essentials.
This back-to-back hike by both Amul and Mother Dairy reflects the broader stress in the dairy industry. Experts warn that if heat conditions persist, milk production may shrink further, leading to more supply-side issues in the coming months.
What Should Consumers Do?
While the price rise is a concern for many, especially middle-class families and tea vendors, Amul milk remains one of the most affordable and quality-assured options in the market. Consumers are advised to:
- Compare prices and variants to choose the best fit for their needs.
- Check for local offers or combo packs from retailers and online platforms.
- Stay updated with regular price revisions through official Amul channels.
The Amul milk price hike, effective May 1, 2025, is not just a market adjustment but a reflection of the larger economic and environmental challenges affecting India’s dairy sector. While it may strain household budgets, it is also a reminder of the need to support the country’s vast network of dairy farmers.
