In the midst of escalating political tension between Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu, Amrita Warring, wife of Raja Warring, released a video on social media defending her husband’s recent comments, which were criticized as “gender-biased.”
The issue arose from Raja Warring’s remarks during a public meeting in Gidderbaha, where he humorously mentioned that his wife, Amrita, was constantly on the ground campaigning from early morning till late evening, leaving him without her presence or support at home. He lightheartedly suggested that someone “arrange a cook” for him while she remains occupied with the election campaign. The remarks drew strong backlash, with Ravneet Singh Bittu condemning them as “sexist” and “demeaning.”
In response, Amrita Warring posted a video addressing Bittu directly, defending her husband’s statements as humorous and expressing disappointment over the political attack. She explained that Raja Warring’s comments were meant to emphasize her dedication to the people. “Raja ji was simply trying to convey with humor how committed I am, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., to the people. Bittu brother, I want to remind you that this is how we speak—straight from the heart. We don’t rely on scripted speeches,” she stated.
Amrita further criticized Bittu, questioning his stance on her involvement in politics and asserting that her husband has always supported her career. She pointed out that Bittu had previously accused Raja Warring of promoting nepotism when she first entered politics. “What is your problem? I am here because of Raja ji’s encouragement. I believe you don’t appreciate the idea of a woman actively contesting elections,” she remarked.
In her address, Amrita also signaled her intent to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Home Minister, questioning Bittu’s fitness for his ministerial role, given his attitude. “A man with such a mindset should not be in a significant position,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Ravneet Singh Bittu responded, doubling down on his criticism of Raja Warring’s remarks. “Such statements diminish the contributions and independence of women, who work tirelessly balancing their professional and personal lives. Comments like these reinforce outdated gender norms and make it challenging for women to pursue their goals freely,” Bittu asserted. He emphasized the need to call out these attitudes to promote respect and equality for women.
The video has since gone viral, sparking widespread discussions on gender perceptions in politics and the role of humor in public discourse. The public remains divided, with some defending Raja Warring’s lighthearted approach while others back Bittu’s call for respectful representation of women’s roles in society.
