Amit Shah Welcomes Nitish Kumar to Rajya Sabha, Calls His Bihar Tenure a Golden Chapter

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday attended the Rajya Sabha nomination ceremony in Patna and described Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s tenure as a “golden chapter” in the state’s history. The event marked a significant political development as Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Upper House, signaling his return to national politics after a long gap.

Speaking to party leaders and supporters, Shah said he had come to Patna specifically to attend the nomination filings of several senior leaders, including Nitin Nabin, Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha, and Sudesh Ram. However, much of his speech focused on Nitish Kumar’s political journey and legacy in Bihar.

Shah said that with this nomination, Nitish Kumar will once again enter Parliament as a Rajya Sabha MP. He recalled Kumar’s long public life, noting that he has served as an MLA, MP, Union Minister, and Chief Minister over several decades. According to Shah, few leaders in Indian politics have maintained such a clean public image throughout their careers. He emphasized that Nitish Kumar’s “kurta was never stained,” pointing to what he described as a corruption-free political life.

Nitish Kumar has led Bihar since 2005, becoming one of the longest-serving chief ministers in the state’s history. Shah credited him with reshaping Bihar’s governance model and steering the state toward development and stability. He said Kumar’s tenure would be written as a golden chapter, as it changed the direction and pace of Bihar’s progress.

The Home Minister also highlighted the coordination between the state government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past 11 years. Shah said Nitish Kumar ensured that central schemes and welfare initiatives reached the grassroots level in Bihar. He added that under Kumar’s leadership, the benefits of central policies were effectively delivered to the people, contributing to improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, law and order, and social welfare.

Shah extended a warm welcome to Nitish Kumar on behalf of the BJP and all NDA allies, saying his return to Delhi would strengthen the alliance at the national level. He said Kumar’s experience and administrative background would add value to parliamentary discussions and policymaking.

The ceremony also marked a new phase for leaders like Nitin Nabin, who, according to Shah, built a strong political career in Bihar before moving to a larger national role. Through the Rajya Sabha, Shah said, such leaders would now contribute directly to national debates and legislation.

Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha is being viewed as a turning point in Bihar politics. After nearly two decades at the helm of the state, his shift to Parliament signals a transition not just for him but for the broader political landscape in Bihar. For the NDA, it represents continuity and consolidation at a time when political alignments remain crucial.

As the nomination process unfolded in Patna, Amit Shah’s remarks made it clear that the alliance sees Nitish Kumar’s journey not only as a personal milestone but also as a defining chapter in Bihar’s modern political history. His return to national politics, Shah suggested, will carry forward the legacy of governance he built in the state.
