Delhi-Pune Air India Flight: An Air India flight from Delhi to Pune suffered a bird-hit, leading to the cancellation of its return journey. Passengers offered rescheduling, refunds, and accommodation.

In a fresh blow to domestic air travel, an Air India flight from Delhi to Pune suffered a bird-hit on Friday, leading to the cancellation of its return journey (Pune to Delhi) and leaving several passengers stranded. Fortunately, the flight landed safely, and no injuries were reported.
Bird-Hit Detected Post Landing
According to Air India’s official statement, the bird-hit was detected only after the aircraft had landed at Pune Airport. Engineers immediately began a thorough inspection of the aircraft, resulting in the decision to ground the plane to ensure passenger safety.
“Flight AI2470 scheduled to operate from Pune to Delhi on June 20 has been cancelled due to a bird-hit which was detected after the incoming flight landed safely in Pune,” the airline said.
Return Flight Cancelled, Passengers Stranded
The cancellation of the Pune-to-Delhi return leg has disrupted travel plans for many passengers. Air India confirmed that alternative arrangements are being made, including hotel accommodations for those affected.
Additionally, passengers have been offered a full refund or complimentary rescheduling, based on their preference.
Airline Responds With Safety-First Protocol
This incident comes at a time when Air India is already facing operational challenges following a series of recent flight disruptions and technical issues. Despite that, the airline reiterated its commitment to safety, stating that the aircraft involved would undergo extensive engineering checks before being cleared for service again.
Air India’s spokesperson emphasized,
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused and are doing everything we can to ensure passengers are accommodated either through alternative flights or rescheduled services.”
Growing Bird-Hit Concerns in Indian Aviation
Bird strikes continue to be a persistent issue in Indian aviation, particularly around airports surrounded by urban settlements. These incidents not only affect operational schedules but also raise significant safety concerns. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has periodically issued advisories to airports and airlines regarding bird hazard management.
While the safe landing of the Air India Delhi-Pune flight has come as a relief, the cancellation of the return flight underscores the ongoing challenges faced by airlines in maintaining safety amid increasing bird-hit incidents. With passenger convenience and safety in mind, Air India’s prompt response in offering alternative arrangements and refunds has been appreciated by many, though it’s clear the airline’s reliability and preparedness remain under public scrutiny.
