The incident took place at his residence around 11:30 PM. The 42-year-old leader was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

According to preliminary reports, MLA Gogi had returned home after attending an event and was having dinner in his room when a gunshot was heard. Upon hearing the sound, his wife, Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, immediately rushed to the room and found him lying in a pool of blood. The bullet reportedly pierced his temple, and the weapon involved was his licensed pistol.

Joint Commissioner of Police Jaskaran Singh Teja has confirmed that the gun was his licensed weapon and said initial statements by his family indicated it is a case of accidental discharge. Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Chahal, along with senior police officials including DCP Shubham Agrawal and ADCPC Ramandeep Bhullar, visited the hospital to review the situation.

Gogi has defeated Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Mahishendra Singh Grewal during the 2022 elections to further strengthen himself as a front-ranking leader of the AAP in Punjab.
