Rudraprayag Landslide Tragedy: One Killed, Another Seriously Injured After Boulder Fall Near Sonprayag

A tragic accident took place in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Friday morning when heavy boulders and stones suddenly came crashing down from a hillside near the Hanuman Barrier in the Sonprayag area. The incident left one person dead and another critically injured, triggering panic among people present nearby.

According to local officials, the hill suddenly started sliding around 8 AM, trapping two men under the debris before anyone could react. The area, which falls along an important route frequented by pilgrims and locals, quickly turned chaotic as rescue teams rushed to the spot.

Personnel from SDRF and the local police immediately began rescue operations and managed to pull both victims out from under the fallen rocks. They were taken to MRP Sonprayag for emergency treatment. However, one of the injured, said to be a local resident, was declared dead by doctors on arrival.

The second victim, reportedly a Nepali national, suffered serious injuries in the accident. After receiving primary medical treatment, he was referred to District Hospital Rudraprayag for further care. His condition is said to be critical.

District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed the incident and said the sudden hill sliding caused the tragedy. He stated that both victims were immediately shifted to the nearest medical facility after the rescue operation.
