Twisha Sharma Death Case: Post-Mortem Confirms Hanging, Blunt Force Injuries Raise Fresh Questions

The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has taken a troubling turn after her post-mortem report revealed that she died due to antemortem hanging, while doctors also discovered multiple blunt force injuries on her body. The findings have added new complexity to the investigation, which is already under intense scrutiny as police continue their search for her husband, Samarth Singh, who remains absconding.

Twisha Sharma Death Case: Post-Mortem Confirms Hanging, Blunt Force Injuries Raise Fresh Questions

Twisha Sharma died on May 12, barely five months after marrying Samarth Singh, a resident of Bhopal. The incident shocked the local community and quickly drew attention across the state of Madhya Pradesh. As investigators work to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to her death, the medical findings are expected to play a crucial role in the probe.

According to the autopsy conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal, Sharma was found hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on the terrace of her residence at around 10:26 PM on May 12. She was later declared dead shortly after midnight.

Doctors concluded that the cause of death was antemortem hanging by ligature, meaning the hanging occurred while she was still alive. The report describes a double reddish patterned ligature mark encircling the upper third of her neck at an angle. Medical experts noted that the skin beneath the mark appeared dry and hardened, a condition often described as “parchmentised.” The ligature mark was also found to be incomplete at the rear portion of the neck.

The examination also revealed several classic signs of asphyxia. These included congestion of the face, a bluish discoloration of the ears and nails, and petechial haemorrhages observed in the right eye. Doctors also identified “Tardieu’s spots” on the lungs, another medical indicator associated with suffocation.

During the internal examination, the medical board recorded congestion in the brain, lungs, and stomach lining. Two small bruised patches were also found in the tissues beneath the ligature mark.

While the report confirmed hanging as the cause of death, investigators are paying close attention to several other injuries discovered on Sharma’s body. The autopsy documented multiple antemortem blunt force injuries, which means they occurred before her death.

Doctors recorded scratches on the left side of her neck and bruises on her left upper arm and forearm. Additional injury marks were observed on her right wrist and right ring finger. The report also mentioned a bruise measuring approximately 2 cm by 2 cm beneath the scalp in the left frontoparietal region.

Although the injuries were described as simple in nature, their presence has raised fresh questions for investigators trying to determine whether Sharma may have been involved in a struggle before her death.

Another detail noted in the post-mortem report relates to Sharma’s recent medical history. Doctors observed that her uterus was enlarged and contained reddish-grey friable tissue, suggesting retained decidual tissue. The report also recorded that she had undergone a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) about a week before her death.

To assist the investigation, several biological samples were collected during the autopsy. These include blood samples, viscera, nail clippings, and hair. All samples have been sealed and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for toxicology and DNA examination. Investigators hope these tests will provide additional clarity about the circumstances surrounding the case.

Meanwhile, police have stepped up efforts to locate Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, who has been named as the main accused in the case and remains missing. Authorities have issued a lookout notice against him to prevent him from leaving the country.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajnish Kashyap Kaul confirmed that necessary correspondence has been initiated with the Deputy Commissioner of Police office in the Bhopal Commissionerate as well as the Regional Passport Office. Multiple police teams have also been deployed to search for Singh across different parts of the state and beyond.

As the investigation continues, officials say the combination of medical findings, forensic reports, and witness statements will be crucial in establishing what truly happened on the night of May 12. The presence of blunt force injuries alongside evidence of hanging has already prompted investigators to examine every possible angle in the case.

For now, the death of Twisha Sharma remains a deeply disturbing case that has raised serious questions and drawn widespread attention, with authorities determined to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.
