Lokpal Dismisses Graft Case Against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, He Says ‘Satyamev Jayate’

The Lokpal has dismissed a corruption complaint filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, bringing an end to a case that had generated political and legal attention over allegations of disproportionate assets.

Reacting to the decision, Dubey said “Satyamev Jayate” — truth alone triumphs — and accused the Congress party of trying to malign him through what he described as false and politically motivated complaints. He said he would continue exposing what he called the opposition’s wrongdoing and would not be intimidated by such tactics.

In its 134-page order issued on Tuesday, the Lokpal termed the allegations against Dubey “frivolous and vexatious” and said the complainant failed to produce any material that warranted further inquiry. The anti-corruption body also noted that the complainant repeatedly modified his claims as the case progressed, weakening their credibility.

The complaint was filed by former IPS officer and Azad Adhikar Sena chief Amitabh Thakur in May last year. He had relied on asset affidavits submitted by Dubey during the 2009, 2014, 2019 and 2024 elections. Thakur alleged that while Dubey’s assets remained largely unchanged over the years, the wealth of his wife, Anamika Gautam, increased significantly.

However, the Lokpal found no convincing evidence to support the claims. It observed that Thakur engaged in what it described as “whataboutery” and failed to establish any clear case of wrongdoing by the BJP MP.

Dubey welcomed the ruling and said the verdict had cleared not only his name but also that of his family. He added that the Lokpal had given him the liberty to pursue legal action for harassment against those who had, according to him, tried to tarnish his reputation through false accusations.

Calling himself an ordinary BJP worker who was given the opportunity to serve as a Member of Parliament under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dubey said it was his responsibility to inform people about the actions of the Congress and expose what he believes are their misdeeds.

The decision is being seen as a significant relief for the BJP MP, who is known for his outspoken political stance. The Lokpal’s ruling closes the matter at the preliminary stage and highlights the need for strong evidence before such serious allegations are taken forward.
