Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir — April 22, 2025: In a shocking act of terrorism, 26 innocent lives were lost in a deadly attack near the tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the brutal assault that targeted tourists at a famed meadow near the valley town.

The massacre—described as the deadliest terror strike in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack—has not only shaken India but also provoked a wave of global condemnation and support.
Trump, Putin, Netanyahu Among First to React: ‘India Has Our Full Support‘
Former US President Donald Trump was among the first global leaders to respond. In a direct call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump expressed unwavering solidarity.
“The United States stands strong with India against terrorism,” Trump said on Truth Social. “We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. PM Modi and the people of India have our full support.”
US Vice President J D Vance also joined in, posting on X:
“Usha and I extend our condolences… Our thoughts and prayers are with the Indian people as they mourn this horrific attack.”
Putin: ‘A Brutal Crime With No Justification’
Russian President Vladimir Putin strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “brutal crime” that must be punished.
“There is no justification for such a barbaric act. The perpetrators will face deserved punishment,” Putin said. He extended “sincere sympathy and support” to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Israel, Italy, EU, UAE, Sri Lanka Show Solidarity With India
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also voiced grief:
“Deeply saddened by the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam… Israel stands with India in its fight against terrorism.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs echoed similar sentiments, condemning the terror act and expressing condolences.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement condemning the attack, reaffirming its “permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism.”
PM Modi Cuts Short Saudi Visit, Returns to New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia, cut short his trip and returned to New Delhi late Tuesday night to oversee the situation.
“India will not forget this heinous act. Justice will be swift and decisive,” Modi is reported to have said during a high-level emergency briefing upon arrival.
Tourism Targeted: Attack Sparks Security Concerns in Kashmir
The attack has cast a shadow on Jammu & Kashmir’s tourism industry, which has seen a revival post-Article 370 abrogation. Most victims were domestic tourists enjoying the spring season in Pahalgam, a popular hill destination.
