A shocking case from Karnataka’s Tumakuru district has left people disturbed after a 17-year-old girl, missing for over a month, is now believed to have been killed by her own father over a family dispute related to her marriage.
The girl, Meghana, lived with her parents in Nimbemaradahalli village in Shira taluk. She went missing on April 16, after her mother Nirmala returned home from work in the evening and found her nowhere in the house. Her phone was switched off, and repeated attempts to contact her failed, which immediately raised concern in the family.
Nirmala later approached the police and filed a missing complaint, hoping her daughter would be traced soon. At that time, no one suspected the case would take such a horrifying turn.
As the investigation moved forward, police learned that there had been constant tension in the family regarding Meghana’s marriage. Her mother and relatives were reportedly planning to get her married to a relative’s son once she turned 18. Preparations had already begun, and even wedding items like sarees and a mangalsutra had been purchased.
However, Meghana’s father, Thimmarayappa, strongly opposed the alliance. Over the past few months, frequent arguments had reportedly taken place at home over this issue, creating growing bitterness within the family.
What shocked investigators further was that Meghana went missing just a day after one such argument. Soon after, her father also disappeared for a short period, which raised suspicion among police.
During interrogation, police sources said Thimmarayappa allegedly confessed to killing his daughter. According to officials, he first pushed her into a well and then threw stones at her. Later, he reportedly took out the body and buried it in a secluded area to hide the crime.

In an even more disturbing detail, police said he later accompanied his wife to the station and helped file the missing complaint, trying to avoid suspicion and mislead the investigation from the very beginning.
Police are now continuing the investigation and collecting further evidence to confirm the sequence of events and recover additional details related to the burial site.
The incident has left the local community in shock, raising painful questions about how a family dispute could turn into such a tragic loss of life.
