The incident was filmed and shows the attacker brandishing a pistol and shooting at Badal, who is sitting in a wheelchair. A bullet missed its mark but hit a wall instead and did not harm the leader.

Assailant Identified as Narayan Singh Chaura

The accused, Narayan Singh Chaura, was soon overpowered by SAD leaders and police personnel on the spot. According to reports, Chaura had a history of crimes wherein he was reportedly connected with the militancy network. Chaura had crossed into Pakistan in 1984 and used to smuggle weapons from there into Punjab. Furthermore, Chaura had seditious writings found with him, and he was arrested in the Burail jailbreak case, which is infamous.

The SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema condemned the attack and said,

“This is a big conspiracy to destabilize Punjab. I thank Guru Nanak for saving Sukhbir Singh Badal’s life. The CM of Punjab must answer where the state is heading under his leadership.

Cheema demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident, emphasizing the need for better security measures around the Golden Temple.
