Sukhbir Badal Attack News: Gunman Opens Fire at SAD Leader During Golden Temple Seva; Narrow Escape Caught on Camera

Sukhbir Badal Attack News: In a shocking security breach at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal just escaped a pistol attack on Wednesday when, as a sevadar, he was stationed close to the Guru Ram Das Dwar. The incident was filmed and shows the attacker brandishing a pistol and shooting at Badal, who is sitting in a wheelchair. A bullet missed its mark but hit a wall instead and did not harm the leader.

Assailant Identified as Narayan Singh Chaura

The accused, Narayan Singh Chaura, was soon overpowered by SAD leaders and police personnel on the spot. According to reports, Chaura had a history of crimes wherein he was reportedly connected with the militancy network. Chaura had crossed into Pakistan in 1984 and used to smuggle weapons from there into Punjab. Furthermore, Chaura had seditious writings found with him, and he was arrested in the Burail jailbreak case, which is infamous.

The SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema condemned the attack and said,

“This is a big conspiracy to destabilize Punjab. I thank Guru Nanak for saving Sukhbir Singh Badal’s life. The CM of Punjab must answer where the state is heading under his leadership.

Cheema demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident, emphasizing the need for better security measures around the Golden Temple.

Security Concerns Raised

Despite assurances from Amritsar ADCP Harpal Singh that “security arrangements were proper,” the incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of safety protocols at one of Punjab’s most revered religious sites. Singh remarked,
The shooter tried to play mischief but failed in doing so, due to the timely reaction of the people present.”

Political Implications

The attack has added fuel to the ongoing political tensions in Punjab. SAD leaders criticized the state government for negligence in maintaining law and order. The incident comes amidst growing concerns about attempts to destabilize the region, with references to past violent eras resurfacing in public discourse.

Chronology of the Attack

  • Location: Guru Ram Das Dwar, Golden Temple
  • Activity: Sukhbir Badal was working as a sevadar. Narayan Singh Chaura shot at Badal from point-blank range. The bullet hit a wall; Chaura was overpowered on the spot.

Public and Political Outcry

The incident has sparked public outcry, with leaders and citizens bashing the attack. Several people called for tight security around religious and political figures to ensure such a case would not recur in the future.
While probing continues, the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal is a stark call for vigilance in the State of Punjab. The SAD has vowed to remain steadfast in its seva without being dampened by the incident. As committed towards the Sikh community, there is no letdown as such.

Sukhbir Badal Attacked: Political Reactions and Insights into Golden Temple Seva

In a dramatic turn of events at the Golden Temple, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an armed attack on Wednesday. This incident has sparked widespread political reactions and brought attention to the religious punishment he has been serving at the holy shrine.

Political Leaders Slam Punjab Government

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring criticized the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led AAP government, calling the attack a failure of law and order.

“I think this is very wrong. This should not have happened. Firing at Sukhbir Singh Badal is 100% negligence of the Government… It reflects the worsening law and order situation in Punjab,” Warring said.

He also emphasized the need for strict action, stating,

“Whoever fired bullets should be given the harshest punishment. There might be hatred for Sukhbir Badal among some Sikhs, but that does not justify violence.”

Religious Punishment at the Golden Temple

The attack occurred while Sukhbir Singh Badal was performing seva as part of a religious punishment (tankhah) issued by the Sikh clergy. The Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, had directed Badal to serve as a sewadar at the Golden Temple. This decision came after he admitted to mistakes committed during the SAD’s tenure from 2007 to 2017, including the controversial pardon granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a 2007 blasphemy case.

Details of the Punishment

As part of the tankhah, Sukhbir Badal has been tasked with cleaning shoes, washing dishes, and performing other voluntary services at the shrine. On Monday, he donned a blue sewadar uniform and began his penance by working for an hour. Acknowledging his “misdeeds,” he wore boards around his neck and carried a spear during his service.
