Belagavi, January 21 – State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday targeted the BJP allegations over the Karnataka law and order situation in the aftermath of a brazen rape reported at KR Market in Bengaluru on Sunday night. When asked about his reaction to BJP criticism, he said that under the BJP, did rapes not take place; that there has to be appropriate action against all anti-social elements.

In this case, a woman was allegedly raped by two men while waiting for a bus to Yelahanka. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner, B Dayananda, confirmed that the crime occurred in the SJ Park area and said two suspects had been arrested. “The complaint pertains to extortion and sexual assault. Two people have been arrested,” he stated.

Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, Siddaramaiah said, “Haven’t rapes taken place during the BJP government? Such incidents are of great concern and our government will take stringent actions to ensure that women feel secure.”

However, the BJP termed the Chief Minister’s statement “irresponsible” and accused the Congress-led government of failing to maintain law and order. BJP spokesperson Ashwath Narayana Gowda criticized Siddaramaiah’s remarks sternly, saying, “This is not a statement expected from a Chief Minister. It is akin to encouraging criminals. Our party strongly condemns it.”

The BJP has also demanded the resignation of Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, alleging a spate of crimes like robbery, murder, rape, and atrocities against the weaker sections of society since the Congress came to power.

“The government’s deplorable attitude is giving the wrong signal to society. It is not acceptable,” added Gowda while urging accountability and swift measures to improve the law and order in the state.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and promised strong action to deter such crimes in the future.
