Pakistani TikTok Shamso Bibi, a 28-year-old social media personality known online as Ayesha Gilamana, was shot dead in Taxila near Islamabad after attackers allegedly intercepted the car in which she was travelling with her sister and brother. The killing, which took place on Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, has drawn widespread attention because of her large online following and her family’s allegation that she had received death threats over a financial dispute.
Shamso Bibi had built an audience of more than 1.3 million followers on TikTok over several years. According to the complaint filed by her father, Fazal Sahibzada, the young creator had been active on the platform for around three to four years before her death.
The case has now developed into a major criminal investigation, with police reportedly arresting at least four suspects. However, investigators have not yet publicly established a final motive, while the family continues to insist that a dispute involving money and earlier threats may be connected to the killing.
Shamso Bibi Was Allegedly Called Out Before the Attack
According to the complaint filed by her father, Shamso Bibi received a phone call from a man identified as Kashif, who allegedly asked her to come outside her home in Taxila.
She later left the house in a car with her sister and brother. As the vehicle approached a market area, two men riding a motorcycle allegedly intercepted it.
What happened next unfolded within moments.
The attackers allegedly stopped near the car, and one of them opened fire at close range. A bullet struck Bibi in the neck, leaving her critically injured. She later died from her injuries.
The shooting reportedly caused further chaos when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car subsequently crashed into a dumper truck, seriously injuring Bibi’s sister.
The sequence of events has added another layer of tragedy to the case, as the family was not only confronted with the shooting but also with a serious road crash immediately afterwards.
CCTV Footage Emerges as Police Investigate
A CCTV video said to be linked to the incident has circulated widely on social media. The footage reportedly shows two men on a motorcycle stopping near a car before one of them appears to take out a pistol and fire.
The video has intensified public interest in the killing, particularly because of the apparent targeted nature of the attack.
However, the complete circumstances surrounding the footage and its authenticity have not been independently established. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV material and other available evidence as part of their efforts to reconstruct the shooting.
Police have reportedly arrested at least four suspects in connection with the case. Two of those arrested are accused of helping the alleged gunman escape after the attack.
The arrests represent the first major breakthrough reported in the investigation, although authorities are still working to determine who planned the attack, who carried it out and whether others played a supporting role.
Family Links Shamso Bibi’s Death to a Financial Dispute
The most serious allegation surrounding the case has come from Bibi’s family.
In his complaint, her father alleged that his daughter had received threats from two men in connection with a dispute involving money. He reportedly named individuals whom he suspected could be connected to the killing.
The family believes the earlier threats may provide an important clue to understanding what led to the attack.
However, investigators have not officially confirmed that the alleged financial dispute was the motive behind the shooting.
That distinction remains crucial. While the family’s allegations form an important part of the complaint and investigation, police must establish whether the dispute was directly connected to the murder through evidence, witness statements, digital records or other material.
For now, the alleged money dispute remains a suspected motive rather than an officially established explanation for why Shamso Bibi was killed.
A Popular Creator Known as Ayesha Gilamana
Shamso Bibi was better known to many online viewers by the name Ayesha Gilamana.
Over the years, she had developed a significant presence on TikTok, attracting more than 1.3 million followers. Her popularity reflected the enormous reach that social media creators can achieve in Pakistan, where platforms such as TikTok have become important spaces for entertainment, self-expression and independent content creation.
According to DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report on Pakistan, TikTok’s advertising data indicated that the platform had an adult audience of around 79.9 million users in Pakistan in late 2025.
Against that backdrop, creators with audiences in the millions can become widely recognised public figures even outside traditional television and film industries.
Bibi’s family has reportedly deleted her TikTok account following her death, while her YouTube page also appears to have been removed.
For her followers, the disappearance of those accounts has added to the sense of suddenness surrounding her death. A creator whose videos had reached millions is now being remembered through reposted clips, photographs and messages shared across social media.
Brother Appeals to Maryam Nawaz for Justice
In the aftermath of the killing, Bibi’s brother, Niamatullah, appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to intervene and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The appeal reflects the family’s concern that the investigation should move quickly and identify not only the alleged shooter but also anyone who may have planned, financed or assisted in the attack.
The arrests have raised hopes of progress, but the central questions in the case remain unanswered.
Police have yet to publicly establish the final motive behind the shooting. Investigators must also determine the extent of each suspect’s alleged involvement and whether the attack was planned in advance.
The case could therefore widen beyond the alleged gunman if investigators find evidence that others helped arrange the shooting, provided logistical support or assisted the suspects after the attack.
Killing Renews Concerns Over the Safety of Women Creators
The death of Shamso Bibi has also revived wider concerns about the safety of women who build large audiences on social media.
Women creators often gain visibility rapidly through platforms such as TikTok, but that visibility can also expose them to harassment, threats and unwanted attention.
Bibi’s killing comes only weeks after the death of another young Pakistani social media creator, Sana Yousaf, whose murder also attracted widespread public attention.
The two cases have intensified discussions about the risks faced by women who become prominent online personalities.
Although every criminal case has its own circumstances, the killings have raised difficult questions about personal security, online harassment, stalking and the ability of authorities to respond when women report threats.
In Bibi’s case, her family’s allegation that she had received death threats before the shooting will likely become a central part of the investigation. If authorities find evidence that credible threats existed before the attack, investigators may also examine whether those threats were reported and whether any protective action was taken.
Independence Day Shooting Sends Shockwaves Through Pakistan
The fact that the attack took place on August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day, added to the shock surrounding the incident.
While celebrations and patriotic events were taking place across the country, the shooting in Taxila turned into a personal tragedy for a family whose daughter had become a recognised social media figure.
The case quickly moved beyond a local crime story because of Bibi’s online popularity. Her death has generated widespread discussion across social media, where users have demanded accountability and justice.
For investigators, however, the challenge will be to separate speculation from evidence.
The circulation of CCTV footage and claims on social media can increase public pressure, but the final case will depend on witness accounts, forensic findings, call records, digital evidence and the testimony of those arrested.
Police Face Key Questions in the Shamso Bibi Murder Case
As the investigation continues, several important questions remain.
Who fired the fatal shot? Was the attack planned in advance? Did the alleged financial dispute play a role? Were the threats reported before the killing? Did anyone provide information about Bibi’s movements? And did others help the attackers escape after the shooting?
The reported arrests suggest that investigators are pursuing possible links beyond the person who allegedly pulled the trigger.
If police establish that the shooting involved planning or assistance from multiple people, the case could develop into a broader investigation into an alleged criminal conspiracy.
