Sarabjeet Kaur Case Update: Lahore Court Issues FIA Notice on FIR Delay

The Sarabjeet Kaur case witnessed a key legal development on Tuesday after a Lahore Sessions Court issued formal notices to Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), seeking an explanation for the continued delay in registering a First Information Report (FIR). The court has directed the FIA to submit a detailed report by 30 January 2026, raising pressure on the authorities over their handling of the matter.

Sarabjeet Kaur Case Update: Lahore Court Issues FIA Notice on FIR Delay

The case revolves around allegations that Sarabjeet Kaur, an Indian Sikh woman, overstayed in Pakistan after entering the country on a Sikh pilgrimage visa. According to the petition, she remained in Pakistan beyond 13 November 2025, allegedly in violation of the Foreigners Act, 1946. The court observed that despite the seriousness of the claims, no FIR has been registered so far.

Taking a stern view, the Sessions Court issued notices not only to the FIA as an institution but also to the FIA Director and the concerned Immigration Investigation Officer. The court has asked them to explain why no legal action was initiated even after a formal application was submitted to the agency in December 2025.

The petition was filed by Advocate Ali Changezi Sandhu on behalf of Mahinder Pall Singh. It alleges that Sarabjeet Kaur was assisted by Nasir Hussain, who allegedly provided her with shelter, transportation, and protection during her stay in Pakistan. The plea claims that these actions amount to harbouring a foreign national, making Hussain an accomplice under Pakistani law.

Sarabjeet Kaur had reportedly travelled to Pakistan as part of a Sikh pilgrims’ group to mark Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Gurpurab. During visits to gurdwaras in Nankana Sahib, she allegedly went missing from the jatha, prompting concern among fellow pilgrims and religious authorities.

Subsequent developments added complexity to the case. According to information presented before the court, Sarabjeet Kaur is said to have converted to Islam and entered into nikah, adopting the name Noor Hussain. The petition claims that a nikah certificate was issued by a mosque in Sheikhupura after she gave her consent before a cleric. These claims have raised questions about the circumstances, consent, and legal procedures involved.

It was further stated before the court that despite submitting an application to the FIA in December last year, no FIR was lodged, forcing the petitioner to approach the judiciary. The plea argues that the failure of law enforcement agencies to act amounts to negligence and undermines the rule of law.

The Sessions Court has now fixed the next hearing of the case for 30 January 2026. On that date, the FIA is expected to submit its report explaining the delay and clarifying its stance. Legal observers say the court’s decision could play an important role in determining accountability in cases involving visa violations and cross-border movement.

The matter remains under judicial consideration, and all allegations are yet to be established in court.
