She had also claimed to have worked as an assistant director for the recently released film Hayagriva. To many, she was another struggling artist chasing success in Sandalwood. But away from the arc lights and film sets, her personal life was unraveling in a far more disturbing way.
The victim, Mohan Krishna Rao, was the third son of Girijabai and Ramarao from Anjananagar. Seven years ago, Mohan had left his family for a woman he loved. Five years ago, he separated from his wife and began living alone. Life took another turn when Bindu moved next door to him in Manjunath Nagar after arriving in Bengaluru from Bhadravathi to pursue her acting ambitions.
What started as a neighbourly acquaintance gradually turned into a romantic relationship. Though they never formally married, they began living together as a couple. Last December, they rented a house in Mahalakshmi Layout and attempted to build a quiet life together. Neighbours recall seeing them as an ordinary pair, with little indication of the turmoil brewing inside their home.
About two and a half months ago, a man named Vinay reportedly entered Bindu’s life. Vinay, who was said to be struggling financially after losses in the hotel business, grew close to her. The friendship soon turned into an illicit relationship. When Mohan discovered the affair, frequent arguments erupted between the couple. What began as verbal clashes slowly escalated into something far more dangerous.
On February 18, matters spiraled out of control. According to police sources, Mohan had consumed alcohol and got into a heated argument with Bindu. In the middle of the fight, she allegedly called Vinay to the house. Vinay arrived along with his friend Dhanush. What followed was an act of shocking brutality.
Investigators say the trio tied Mohan’s hands, taped his mouth, and assaulted him mercilessly. He was struck on the head with an iron rod and stabbed multiple times with a knife. The intensity of the attack stunned even experienced officers who examined the scene. It was not a sudden outburst but a sustained act of violence.
After the murder, the accused allegedly planned to burn the body to destroy evidence. However, they reportedly abandoned the idea after realizing that a crematorium would require official documentation, including a death certificate. Fearing exposure, they fled to K.R. Nagar later that evening. Dhanush was given some money and sent elsewhere.
The body remained inside the house for three days. A foul smell eventually alerted neighbours, who informed the house owner. The owner’s son, Ravikiran, approached the police, leading to the discovery of the gruesome crime.
Tracking Bindu proved challenging for investigators. Police revealed that she had been using five different SIM cards registered under different names, complicating efforts to trace her location. However, a dedicated technical team analyzed call detail records and location data, eventually zeroing in on her whereabouts. Bindu and Vinay were arrested in K.R. Nagar. Further investigation is ongoing, and Dhanush’s precise role is also being examined.
Sources suggest Bindu had faced several personal setbacks, including the loss of her mother, her father’s remarriage, separation from her husband, and the tragic loss of her child during the COVID-19 pandemic. While these experiences reflect emotional turmoil, investigators maintain that they cannot excuse the brutality of the crime.
