Rajpal Yadav Surrenders in Tihar Jail After Court Refuses Relief in Cheque Bounce Cases

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered before the authorities at Tihar Jail in New Delhi on Thursday evening after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him any further relief in connection with his conviction in cheque bounce cases. The actor complied with the court’s direction and reported to the jail authorities at around 4 pm.

A senior jail official confirmed the surrender and said that standard operating procedures were initiated soon after Yadav entered custody. As per protocol, the actor will now undergo routine formalities, including medical examination and documentation, before further legal processes are followed.

The surrender came a day after the Delhi High Court declined to extend the deadline earlier given to Yadav for surrendering. The actor had been directed on February 2 to present himself before the jail authorities by 4 pm on Wednesday. However, his legal team moved the court seeking additional time.

During the hearing, Yadav’s counsel informed the court that the actor had managed to arrange a sum of ₹50 lakh and requested a one-week extension to complete the payment. The plea argued that granting a short extension would help resolve the financial aspect of the case.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, however, rejected the application, stating that there was no sufficient ground to grant the relief sought by the actor. The court observed that adequate opportunity had already been provided and further extension was not justified under the circumstances.

The cheque bounce cases against Rajpal Yadav are linked to financial disputes arising from earlier professional commitments. Over the years, the matter has seen multiple hearings and legal proceedings, eventually resulting in his conviction and the order directing him to surrender if the dues were not cleared within the prescribed time.

Rajpal Yadav, widely known for his comic roles in Hindi cinema, has appeared in several popular films and enjoys a strong fan following. His surrender has drawn public attention, highlighting the judiciary’s firm stance on financial accountability, irrespective of an individual’s professional stature.

With the actor now in custody, his legal options remain limited to remedies available under law. Any further relief would require fresh judicial consideration.
