Punjabi rapper Badshah in legal trouble while attending Karan Aujla’s concert in Gurugram

Gurugram: Popular Bollywood rapper Badshah found himself in legal trouble while attending Punjabi singer Karan Aujla’s concert in Gurugram. The rapper, who was part of the event, was reportedly fined for driving on the wrong side of the road, triggering backlash on social media.

According to reports, Badshah was traveling in a Mahindra Thar, part of a convoy of three vehicles, to reach the venue near Airia Mall. The vehicles were reportedly seen driving on the wrong side of the road, which not only disrupted traffic but also caused outrage among commuters and netizens. Several social media users called out the convoy’s behavior, questioning the apparent disregard for traffic rules and accusing the bouncers of misbehavior.

The incident went viral after an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a post in Hindi, stating, “3 vehicles of Punjabi singer Karan Aujla’s convoy are going on the wrong side towards Airia Mall, and the bouncers are also misbehaving with the people, but Gurugram police are sleeping.” In response, Gurugram Police promptly took action and issued a challan (traffic fine) against the vehicles on December 16.

MV Act Violation

The violation happened in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act of 2019. This Act declares that a punishable offense would be incurred for wrong side driving. Particularly, violations happen under Section 184 of dangerous driving and Section 194D for wrong side driving on one-way roads.

As per the Act, for the first-time offenders, the penalty includes a fine of ₹500 to ₹1,000 and/or imprisonment up to 6 months. For the repeat offenders, the penalty is more severe, which may include fines up to ₹10,000, imprisonment up to 2 years, and even suspension of the driver’s license. In extreme cases, the violators may also have their vehicles impounded.

Social Media Outcry and Police Action

The incident caused an outburst of debates on social media. Many people condemned celebrities and their entourages for supposedly bypassing the rules and causing inconvenience to other people. Questions were also raised on whether stricter enforcement of traffic laws is needed, especially for high-profile personalities.

Interestingly, it was reported that the Mahindra Thar that was involved in the car accident was registered to some youth from Panipat and not to the rapper personally. However, this doesn’t save the convoy from taking the legal consequences.

Gurugram Police, after hearing the news, issued a confirmation about their quick response saying, “Challan has been generated on 16.12.2024 against wrong side driving according to MV Act.” The Police have received accolades by some netizens for proving equality under the law that transcends status.
Previously, several such incidents came up where there was much hue and cry over unequal justice in society.
This is not the first time public outcry has been witnessed over celebrity convoys violating traffic rules. Such incidents have raised questions about road safety and the perceived immunity of influential people from legal action.

With the provisions of the MV Act, law enforcement agencies are being called upon to take stringent action against all violators to set an example and ensure safer roads for citizens.

The incident of Badshah’s involvement in the Gurugram traffic violation has sparked much debate. It is, however a reminder that traffic rules need to be followed and it becomes very important for people who are public figures to set an example and be on the right side of rules that ensure safety and order in public spaces, as social media amplifies accountability.
