Punjab Serial Killer Arrested: 11 Murders in 18 Months

Punjab Serial Killer Arrested: In a shocking revelation, Punjab Police have arrested a 33-year-old man accused of committing 11 murders over the span of 18 months. The accused, Ram Saroop, a resident of Chaura village in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur district, targeted male victims under the guise of offering them lifts, ultimately robbing, sexually assaulting, and killing them.

It all started when a 37-year-old man, employed as a tea and water server at Toll Plaza Modra, was murdered on August 18. On interrogation, Saroop disclosed that he had killed ten more people, but till date, the police could confirm only five of the cases. The rest is yet under scrutiny.

Punjab Serial Killer Arrested: The Modus Operandi

Police say the victims of Saroop’s crime spree were all male, with whom he raped them after picking them a ride. When they resented him asking for his money or resisted his move, he would get brutal. The majority of deaths were through strangulation involving a piece of cloth as a weapon. Other people died from head injury.

One of the most macabre facts is the killing of an ex-soldier who was a private security guard, whose body had the word “Dhokebaaz” (cheater) written on his back.

Timeline of Murders

The killing spree of Saroop covered Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. Among the confirmed ones are:

• Murder of a 34-year-old tractor repairman, beaten to death on April 5.
• The body of an adolescent male was found inside a car on 24 January.

Saroop was a laborer reportedly addicted to drugs. Violent tendencies were fueled for him by alcohol; that is, he stated during his confession that he made the murders while he was intoxicated.

Personal Life and Confessions

In another incident, police claim, Saroop was married to three children; however two years ago his family disowned him for his sexuality. The culprit stated the he was repenting in his actions but asserted having committed the crime when sober because he would have requested forgiveness from the victims touching their feet post-murder as shown later in the video.

Police Statement

“We have arrested the accused. He will be produced before the court soon,” a police official confirmed. The authorities are still investigating and cross-checking all the murders confessed by Saroop to ensure that justice is done to the victims.

The case has sent shockwaves across Punjab, underlining the importance of alertness and treatment of psychological and narcotic disorders leading to such heinous crimes.
