During the event, Prime Minister Modi was seen touching the feet of Sant Niranjan Dass, the head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan, a gesture that was warmly received by devotees present at the gathering. Addressing the congregation, the Prime Minister greeted people in Punjabi, saying, “Main Punjab di is dharti nu naman karda haan,” and expressed gratitude for the love and respect shown by the people of the state. He reminded the audience that Guru Ravidas was born in Varanasi, which is also his parliamentary constituency.

Modi said the people of Varanasi had blessed him with the opportunity to serve them as their Member of Parliament and noted that the city holds a special place in India’s spiritual history because of Guru Ravidas’ birthplace. He added that the teachings of the saint continue to inspire millions across the country.

Highlighting the relevance of Guru Ravidas’ philosophy in contemporary India, the Prime Minister said the saint’s message of equality, dignity, and social harmony guides the nation’s progress. With the blessings of Guru Ravidas, he expressed confidence that India would move steadily towards achieving the vision of a developed nation, or “Viksit Bharat.”

The Prime Minister also praised the role played by Dera Sachkhand Ballan in the field of social service, stating that its work in education, healthcare, and community upliftment has been commendable. He acknowledged the dera’s efforts in promoting unity and welfare among the underprivileged sections of society.

Dera Sachkhand Ballan, located in the Ballan village of Jalandhar district, remains a major religious and cultural centre for the Ravidassia community in Punjab and beyond. The Prime Minister’s visit on Guru Ravidas Jayanti was seen as a gesture of respect towards the community and its enduring spiritual legacy.
