A tragic family dispute in Panipat has ended in the death of an elderly couple who allegedly consumed poison after prolonged tension inside their home. The incident has shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about how unresolved domestic conflicts can spiral into devastating outcomes.
According to local reports, the deceased have been identified as Rajesh and his wife Suman. The couple lived with their only son Ashish and daughter-in-law Sneha in a village near Panipat. What once appeared to be a normal family arrangement gradually turned into a tense household environment marked by frequent disagreements.
Ashish had married Sneha last year after the two met through Instagram. Their relationship reportedly began online and later turned into a love-cum-arranged marriage with the consent of their families. After the wedding, Sneha moved from Delhi to live with her husband’s family in their village.
People familiar with the family say the difference in lifestyle soon became a source of friction. Sneha, who grew up in Delhi’s modern urban environment, reportedly found it difficult to adapt to the more traditional and conservative atmosphere of the village. Her in-laws, on the other hand, expected her to follow local customs and dress according to what they considered appropriate for their social setting.
Over time, these disagreements reportedly became more frequent. What began as small arguments about lifestyle choices gradually developed into deeper conflicts inside the home. According to some local residents, tensions had been building for months.
There are also allegations that Sneha had arguments with her mother-in-law Suman on several occasions and that the disputes sometimes turned heated. Neighbours claim that the elderly couple had been under emotional stress because of the ongoing family tensions.
The situation reportedly escalated again recently when another argument broke out inside the house. Shortly afterward, Rajesh and Suman allegedly consumed a poisonous substance. When their condition suddenly deteriorated, family members rushed them to Civil Hospital Panipat.
Doctors at the hospital declared Suman dead on arrival. Rajesh, who was in critical condition, was referred to Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he also passed away during treatment the following morning.
The incident has left the village stunned, with many residents struggling to comprehend how a domestic dispute could lead to such a tragic end. Police have started an investigation into the matter and are recording statements from family members and people in the neighborhood to understand exactly what led to the couple taking this extreme step.
