Manoharlal Dhakad arrested over a viral obscene video allegedly filmed on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Mandsaur. Police vow strict action as investigation continues.
Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), May 25: A disturbing video that went viral on May 13 showing a couple allegedly engaging in sexual activity on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has triggered outrage across the country. In a swift response, Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested the man seen in the video, who has been identified as Manoharlal Dhakad, a resident of Mandsaur district, located around 200 km from Indore.

The video, reportedly filmed near Bhanpura town in Mandsaur, showed a couple inside a white car on the expressway in what police have called a public display of obscenity. The car, as confirmed by transport department records, is registered in Dhakad’s name.
Manoharlal Dhakad Arrested
Speaking to the media, Mandsaur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Anand confirmed the arrest. “A video went viral on May 13, and an FIR was promptly filed at Bhanpura police station. The accused has now been taken into custody and is being interrogated. We are investigating further, and strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved,” he said.
Earlier, Mandsaur DIG Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that the incident did occur in a public area of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. A case has been registered against Manoharlal Dhakad and another individual under sections 296 (obscene acts in public places), 285 (obstructing a public way), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Accused Removed from Community Post
Following the emergence of the video, Dhakad was removed from his post as the national secretary of the Dhakad Mahasabha, a community organization based in Ujjain. His abrupt dismissal further indicates the seriousness with which the community has viewed the matter.
Dhakad reportedly went incommunicado after the video surfaced, with his phone switched off and no public statements made. Police tracked him down during the investigation and eventually made the arrest.
BJP Denies Political Link to Accused
Amid growing speculation on social media regarding Dhakad’s political affiliations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially distanced itself from the accused. While Dhakad’s wife, Sohan Bai, is a BJP-backed member of the district panchayat from Ward No. 8 in Mandsaur, local party leaders clarified that Dhakad himself holds no formal position in the party.
Mandsaur BJP District President Rajesh Dixit told PTI, “Dhakad belongs to Bani village, but he is not a primary member of the BJP. His wife is a panchayat member supported by our party. As for Manoharlal, we have no confirmation about any online or offline party membership.”
Dixit also acknowledged hearing about the viral video being from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway but refrained from further comments.
The case has sparked intense public debate around privacy, public decency, and the need for surveillance on national highways. Police have assured that the matter is being handled with full seriousness and that all individuals responsible will be held accountable under the law.
As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities that come with access to public spaces—and the legal consequences when those boundaries are crossed.
