A shocking incident has been reported in Sector 12A, Panchkula, where a LIC agent was lured into a residence to process an insurance policy and subsequently held at gunpoint. They robbed him and stripped him of his clothes before recording an obscene video. He managed to flee and report the incident to the police station at Sector 14.
The victim told the police that he was contacted by a woman stating that she wanted assistance with her LIC policy. On reaching House No. 1173, Second Floor, the woman at the address said that she needed a policy for her mother, as her father was dead. He explained to the woman that there was no option of issuing the policy to widowed women in the terms stipulated.
By this time, the woman called for her assistants. There happened to be one man who was with a gun, and he took Devendra at gunpoint and extorted his money and stuff from him.
The accused forcibly removed the clothes of the victim, Devendra, and took ₹15,000 cash from his wallet. They also demanded his ATM card and the PIN. He refused to say the PIN to them. His mobile phone was crushed. One of the women then took his ATM card and stepped out for sometime, while the other clicked an obscene picture of the agent.
It became even more grave when Devendra was assaulted and intimidated that the footage would be circulated against him. The group also took the video for a counter-trust of ensuring that he obeys their orders.
The accused relaxed his vigil for some time and, therefore, escaped from there. Devendra then reached the Sector 14 police station and filed a complaint at the same station.
According to Devendra, police have filed cases against several individuals including two female accused who were residing at the same address. They have charged them with robbery, physical assault, and criminal intimidation. Cases are under investigation and the cops are trying to nab the offenders.
This incident raises questions about the safety of professionals who visit homes as part of their work. It is a stark reminder to be cautious when responding to such calls.
