Kanpur Lamborghini Crash: Driver Mohan Claims He Was Behind the Wheel, Police Insist Shivam Mishra Was Driving

The investigation into Kanpur’s high-profile Lamborghini crash took a dramatic turn on Wednesday after Mohan, the alleged designated driver of the luxury sports car, claimed that he — not Shivam Mishra — was behind the wheel when the vehicle rammed into pedestrians on VIP Road. His statement stands in sharp contrast to the police version, which firmly names Shivam, son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra, as the driver at the time of the accident.

The crash, which occurred around 3 pm on Sunday in the upscale Gwaltoli area, involved a Lamborghini Revuelto reportedly worth over ₹10 crore. The speeding supercar allegedly hit pedestrians and vehicles, leaving several people injured and sparking widespread outrage across the city. One of the injured victims, Taufeeq, later lodged an FIR.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Mohan said he lost control of the car after Shivam, who was sitting beside him, suddenly suffered a seizure moments before the crash. He claimed the medical emergency created panic inside the vehicle.

“I was driving the car when the accident happened. Suddenly, he had a seizure and fell on me. I got scared and tried to hold him with one hand. The car hit a three-wheeler, climbed the divider and stopped,” Mohan said.

He further claimed that the Lamborghini’s automatic locking system prevented him from stepping out immediately after the impact. According to him, he shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat before exiting the vehicle, and later the glass was broken.

Mohan appeared before the concerned court to formally surrender after his lawyer moved an application. However, the Gwaltoli police, in a report submitted to the court, did not name him as an accused in the case. In view of the police stand, the court declined to accept his surrender.

Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal rejected Mohan’s claims and maintained that CCTV footage, eyewitness statements, and other evidence clearly indicate that Shivam Mishra was driving the car at the time of the accident. Senior officers also referred to videos circulating on social media that reportedly show bystanders pulling a man believed to be Shivam from the driver’s seat immediately after the crash.

The FIR, initially registered against an unidentified driver, was later amended to name Shivam as the accused. Authorities have seized the Lamborghini for forensic examination, and officials say technical findings will play a key role in determining the sequence of events.

Earlier, Shivam’s father, KK Mishra, appeared at the Gwaltoli police station to record his statement. He initially stated that Mohan was driving the car. However, he later revised his statement, saying he was unsure who was behind the wheel and that the matter should be investigated thoroughly.

KK Mishra also claimed that the car had developed a technical snag a day before the incident and was taken out for testing after repairs. He said Shivam began losing consciousness while returning from Civil Lines. According to him, when the driver checked on Shivam, the car slowed down and an auto-rickshaw hit it. He further stated that security personnel traveling in an accompanying SUV broke the window to rescue his son.

The family has maintained that Shivam suffers from epilepsy and is undergoing treatment in Delhi. They have strongly denied allegations of over-speeding or intoxication, describing the crash as an unfortunate medical emergency rather than reckless driving.

Despite the defense presented by Mohan and the Mishra family, police remain firm that the available evidence supports their case against Shivam. Investigators are now relying on forensic analysis of the seized vehicle, CCTV footage, and witness testimonies to establish the exact chain of events.

As conflicting claims continue to surface, the Kanpur Lamborghini crash has evolved from a road accident into a closely watched legal battle over accountability and truth.
