Famous YouTuber and charity influencer Jimmy Donaldson, also known as MrBeast, has left social media users in a tizzy with his plan to buy TikTok. Amid the growing threat of a US ban against TikTok, millions have taken notice of MrBeast’s acquisition announcement.
The potential ban is based on a federal law signed by President Joe Biden in 2023, citing national security concerns over TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The law requires ByteDance to sell its US operations by January 19, 2025, or face a nationwide ban. With over 170 million Americans actively using TikTok, the platform’s future hangs in the balance.

MrBeast appears in a recent viral TikTok video in which he shared with the community that he even held talks with a group of billionaires to prepare a potential buyout bid to the platform. Directly answering TikTok, “I just exited a meeting of a group of billionaires. TikTok, we are really serious. Behind me is an attorney. Now, we had a deal. We’re trying to purchase it. America should have TikTok. Give me a seat at the table. Let me save this platform, TikTok.”
MrBeast took to social media to further amplify the buzz. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted, “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned,” garnering over 36 million views. In a follow-up post, he shared, “Unironically, I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this. Let’s see if we can pull this off.”

Why Is TikTok at Risk?
The US government’s stance on TikTok revolves around national security. There has been concern over how the app collects data and potentially provides access to the Chinese government. These fears culminated in the 2023 law giving ByteDance an ultimatum: sell TikTok’s US operations or face a complete ban.
If the deadline passes without a sale, the app could be blocked, and it would become illegal for app stores and hosting services to distribute TikTok in the US.
A Billionaire with a Vision
With 841 million subscribers across his YouTube channels, MrBeast’s influence is unmatched. Known for his philanthropic endeavors and groundbreaking content, he recently launched a new Amazon Studios TV show, Beast Games, where 1,000 contestants compete for a $5 million cash prize. His potential bid to save TikTok demonstrates his commitment to preserving digital platforms that foster creativity and connection.
The internet reacted with a mix of excitement and skepticism, asking if MrBeast can indeed go through with such a monumental acquisition. As the deadline approaches January 19, all eyes remain on TikTok’s fate and MrBeast’s next move.
