Many students on F-1 visas, which grant them permission to work up to 20 hours a week, rely upon part-time jobs to support themselves. The fear of deportation has forced many students to quit jobs to avoid the searchlight that will focus on their immigration status.

Indian workers on H1-B visas also share their apprehensions over the rising unpredictability of US immigration policies. While they are lawfully employed in the US, any changes in the program or stricter scrutiny can jeopardize their status and long-term plans.

It is a standard requirement that visitors possess a return ticket to ensure that they do not overstay their visa and go against the dictates of their visa terms, especially for those on a tourist visa. The parents in question reportedly intended to stay with their children for five months. However, without a return ticket, they were flagged by immigration officials and sent back to India on the next available flight.

In the midst of these moves, India appears to be willing to cooperate with the US on illegal immigrants. India has reportedly consented to resettle 18,000 illegal immigrants in the United States in return for the removal of potential trade or diplomatic clashes.
