India Suspends Train Service to Bangladesh Amid Violent Protests

India has suspended train services to Bangladesh amid ongoing student protests in Dhaka and other cities. Over 100 protesters have been killed in clashes with security forces.

The Eastern Railway announced the cancellation of the 13107 Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express (departing Dhaka on July 21) and the 13108 Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express (departing Kolkata on July 22). Additionally, due to uncertainties regarding train availability, the 13129 Kolkata-Khulna Bandhan Express (departing July 21) and the 13130 Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express (departing July 21) have also been cancelled.

Police have enforced a strict curfew with a “shoot-on-sight” order across Bangladesh, while military forces patrol Dhaka’s streets following violent clashes over government job allocations.
