Himachal Youth Abhishek Sharma Dies in Chandigarh Road Accident Near Maloya Light Point

Chandigarh, May 19, 2025: A tragic road accident near the Maloya light point claimed the life of a young man from Himachal Pradesh on Saturday night. The incident involved a high-speed collision between a car and a motorcycle, raising concerns about road safety in the city.

Victims Identified

The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Sharma, a native of Himachal Pradesh. He was riding pillion on a motorcycle along with his friend Abhishek Rao, who was driving the bike at the time of the accident. The duo was heading towards Sector 16 when a speeding car rammed into their bike near the Maloya light point.

Immediate Medical Response

Passersby immediately alerted the police and emergency services. Both the injured were rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors declared Abhishek Sharma dead on arrival. His friend, Abhishek Rao, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for advanced treatment. His condition is currently reported to be critical but stable.

Car Driver Arrested

The car involved in the accident was driven by Tajinder Thakur, a resident of Mohali. According to eyewitnesses, the car was allegedly being driven at a high speed, which led to the fatal collision. Chandigarh Police have registered a case at the Maloya police station under Sections 281, 125, and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Thakur was arrested at the scene and later released on bail pending further investigation.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the pressing issue of reckless driving and road safety violations in and around Chandigarh. Local residents and commuters have expressed concerns about the lack of strict monitoring near accident-prone areas such as the Maloya light point.
