Encounter in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir as Security Forces Bust Terrorist Hideout

Encounter in Sopore: Security forces are presently involved in an active encounter in the Zaloora Gujjarpati area of Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, after a terrorist hideout was unearthed. The operation started late Sunday evening when gunshots were reported in the region. No casualties have been reported so far, and the situation is still ongoing.

Official updates said the security forces took prompt action immediately after they had received the inputs about the terrorists in the region. Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon-and-search operation following reports of suspicious activities. There is gunfire inside the hideout; the security forces responded quickly to it. The videos circulating on social media show intense firing and military movement near the place.

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army issued a statement on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle: “Operation Gujjarpatti has commenced as specific intelligence had been received regarding the presence of terrorists. Suspicious activity was noticed by alert troops, who challenged them; terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Our troops responded effectively. The operation is ongoing.”

The Kashmir Zone Police also issued a separate update stating that a terrorist hideout was busted during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Zaloora, Sopore. “Fire was seen emanating from inside the hideout, and the area has been cordoned off. Further details will follow,” the police said in a brief social media update.

The incident comes days after a major encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, where 18 Naxalites were killed. Security officials later revealed that the slain insurgents belonged to one of the “strongest” Maoist units in the Bastar region.

This current clash between security forces and terrorists in Sopore has raised the efforts towards maintaining peace and security in the region. Authorities are urging the residents to remain vigilant and cooperate during the operation as the search continues for the people involved in the terrorist activity.
