Emergency Box Office Collection Day 4: Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited film, Emergency, which explores the 21-month Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977, has seen a significant fall at the box office on its fourth day. As per early estimates from Sacnilk.com, the movie has collected around ₹0.44 crore net in India on January 20, which is a steep fall from the ₹4.35 crore collected on Day 3.
Since its opening on January 17, Emergency had done middling business. It opened with a net collection of ₹2.5 crore, and then Day 2 did ₹3.6 crore, and Day 3 fetched ₹4.35 crore. On Day 4, the film’s earnings tell the story of a spectacular dip in audience engagement and this is due to several reasons – other releases, possible fatigue among viewers, or mixed responses.
The film had garnered much attention this week despite censorship and protests. According to reports from Kangana Ranaut’s production house, Manikarnika Films, the two-day collection after its release was ₹7.39 crore. The campaign highlighted the engaging story and the excitement surrounding Kangana Ranaut playing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, thus initially generating buzz among viewers.
Starring Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and Milind Soman, besides the late actor Satish Kaushik, the movie has been produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films. The actor has been an all-rounder as she plays the lead in the movie as well as its director, highlighting her ability as an actress as well as a filmmaker.

Despite the drop in box office figures, reviews from the audiences have been highly positive and laudatory for Kangana Ranaut’s performance. She has been on social media’s tongues as a result of the film, where people are giving comments like “Kangana is Indira” and “Kangana Ranaut has delivered a film with integrity and honesty.” The movie seems to have struck a chord with those familiar with the period, receiving accolades for depth and authenticity.
Emergency has undoubtedly stirred curiosity among film lovers, but with the box office trend pointing downward, it remains to be seen if it can regain momentum in the coming days.
