Emergency Box Office collection: Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited political drama Emergency has defied expectations at the box office, earning ₹2.35 crore net in India on its opening day. Despite a subdued promotional campaign and a slow start at the ticket counters, the film has managed to surpass the ₹1.50–₹2 crore range predicted by industry experts like Pinkvilla.
Emergency, which hit the screens on January 17, had stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s Azaad, which managed to collect ₹1.50 crore on its first day. However, Kangana’s film took the lead, outperforming its rival and reinforcing her position as a bankable star in Bollywood.
Emergency has garnered attention for its bold narrative centered on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s regime. Directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut in the titular role, the film looks into one of India’s most controversial political periods. Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw have formed a lot of ensemble work with the Kangana stardom which attracts people to cinema halls.
The film has churned out different reactions from the netizens. While many have praised Kangana’s direction and called Emergency a masterpiece, others said that the films were usually niche made rather than mass entertainments.
One social media user praised Kangana’s performance as Indira Gandhi, saying, ” Kangana’s direction is exceptional. Emergency is one of the best films in a long time.” Others found the movie average, remarking that it leaned heavily towards a classic, artistic style. “The movie is good, but it’s not for the masses,” wrote another user.
The opening-day performance of Emergency shows that the film’s historical significance and Kangana Ranaut’s star power have connected well with a major section of the audience. As the weekend unfolds, it is yet to be seen if the film can continue the momentum and pull in larger crowds to the theatres.
