A tragic incident in Chandigarh has left the city’s sports community and residents in shock after a 21-year-old state-level Hockey Player Tania was allegedly stabbed to death during a property dispute within her family. The incident took place at a house in Sector 38, where tensions between relatives reportedly escalated into violence on Thursday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Tania, had recently completed her graduation and was known among her family and friends as a passionate hockey player who had represented at the state level. According to police officials, the conflict was rooted in a long-standing disagreement over ownership of the house where two branches of the family had been living together. Tania’s father, Ravi, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver, filed a complaint with the police stating that his sister and her family lived on the first floor of the house while his family occupied the ground floor. Over time, disputes over possession and ownership of the property had created frequent arguments between the two sides.
Ravi alleged that his nephew Krishna often quarrelled with him regarding the house. On Thursday afternoon, the situation reportedly turned tense when another argument broke out between the families. According to Ravi’s statement to the police, he had gone upstairs to calm the situation and speak to his sister’s family. After attempting to settle the dispute, he was returning downstairs when his daughter Tania went upstairs.
Shortly after, the argument escalated into a violent confrontation. In his complaint, Ravi alleged that Krishna, along with Ravi, Gangan, Aniket, Naveen and Tina, attacked Tania during the altercation. During the scuffle, Krishna allegedly stabbed Tania near her waist with a knife, causing severe injuries.
Family members immediately rushed Tania to a nearby hospital in the hope of saving her life. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival, confirming that the injuries proved fatal. The heartbreaking news quickly spread across the neighborhood, leaving residents stunned.
After receiving information about the incident, police from Sector 39 police station reached the spot and began their investigation. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Tania’s father, and police teams have launched raids to locate the accused involved in the attack.
