Chandigarh school summer vacation 2025

Chandigarh, India – May 20, 2025: With the entire North India, including Punjab, reeling under an intense heatwave, the Union Territory of Chandigarh has recorded some of the highest temperatures in recent history. In response to the soaring mercury, the Chandigarh Education Department has officially declared summer vacations for all schools beginning May 23, which will continue until July 1, 2025.

The summer break will last 39 days, providing much-needed relief to students and teachers alike. As per officials, the move comes after temperature levels crossed normal thresholds, putting children’s health at risk.

With the announcement, schools across Chandigarh — including government, private, and aided institutions — are gearing up to distribute summer holiday homework to students. Many teachers have already begun curating assignments to ensure students remain engaged during the break.

Interestingly, the Education Department is also planning to conduct National Service Scheme (NSS) camps for students during the holiday period. Though exact dates have not been confirmed, sources say schools will soon receive the schedule.

These camps aim to promote community service, leadership, and social responsibility among students during their time off.

Administrative Staff to Continue Working

Despite the vacation for students, the schools won’t go completely silent. According to the official notification, clerical staff, Group D employees, and principals will continue to report to work during the summer break. Furthermore, teachers will be assigned duties for two days each, likely for administrative or planning purposes.

Heatwave Warning Still in Effect

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave alert for Chandigarh and neighboring regions, warning residents to stay hydrated and indoors during peak afternoon hours.

The announcement of holidays has come as a major relief to parents and students who were concerned about the health hazards of commuting and attending school in such extreme weather.
