Chandigarh Admin Considers Venue Change for AP Dhillon’s Concert

Chandigarh, December 20: The Chandigarh administration is revisiting its decision to allow AP Dhillon’s Concert to be held in Sector 34 after there have been growing complaints of chaos following the recent concerts of Punjabi singers Karan Aujla and Diljit Dosanjh. Now, the administration is asking organisers to shift the concert to the more spacious Sector 25 ground.

The move comes after grievances poured in regarding severe traffic disruptions, noise pollution, and adverse impacts on local businesses during previous concerts. Despite organisers already securing approvals for the Sector 34 venue, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav emphasized the administration’s stance. “We’re recommending the Sector 25 ground, which offers more space and better logistical handling. If organisers insist on Sector 34, we will ensure no future events are allowed there,” he said.

Traders in Sector 34 have been very vocal about the issue, especially after the concert by Diljit Dosanjh on December 14. Businessmen have claimed heavy losses as the roads are closed down too early. Operations and deliveries are affected by these road closures.

Harjit Singh, a furniture market seller in Sector 34, said, “We had to close shops early due to the roadblocks. Deliveries of furniture got delayed, and customers couldn’t reach us.”.

Also questioning the administrative machinery, shopkeeper Sham Mall owner Harinder Singh said the administration could foresee such a situation. “These events bring unnecessary disturbances. If they were held somewhere less congested, businessmen won’t face such losses.

The administration’s pressure on shifting the venue of AP Dhillon’s concert indicates its efforts to strike a balance between the cultural intensity of the city and the economic stability and public convenience. Sector 25 is more appropriate because it has greater capacity and better infrastructure to manage crowds and traffic.

While concerts by popular Punjabi artists are celebrated for their massive appeal, the growing backlash from residents and traders signals a need for better planning and execution.

As the administration negotiates with organisers, the outcome will likely set a precedent for future events, ensuring both entertainment and civic order go hand in hand.
