Baikuntha Nath Sarangi Caught With ₹2 Crore Cash: Odisha Vigilance Raid Uncovers Shocking Details

In a dramatic anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance officials have uncovered over ₹2 crore in unaccounted cash and other assets from the residences and office of Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, Chief Engineer of Plan Roads, RW Division, Odisha. The discovery has raised serious questions about alleged corruption and possession of assets disproportionate to Sarangi’s known sources of income.

The raids were initiated early Friday morning and are still ongoing at multiple locations linked to Sarangi. Acting on search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul, teams of officials simultaneously raided Sarangi’s residences in Bhubaneswar and Angul, along with his office chamber located at the Chief Engineer, RD Planning and Road in Bhubaneswar.

What stunned the vigilance officers was Sarangi’s reaction during the raid. As soon as the officers arrived at his Bhubaneswar flat, he reportedly threw bundles of ₹500 notes out of the window in a desperate attempt to hide the illicit cash. Vigilance officials quickly recovered the cash in the presence of independent witnesses. Approximately ₹1 crore was recovered from his Bhubaneswar flat alone, while another ₹1.1 crore in cash was found at his residence in Angul.

The investigation team also uncovered a two-storey house in Karadagadia, Angul, along with multiple flats in Bhubaneswar and Siula, Pipili in Puri district. The team extended their search to Sarangi’s ancestral home and relatives’ residences in Angul district, suspecting a broader network of undisclosed assets.

Officials suspect that the seized properties and cash are disproportionate to Baikuntha Nath Sarangi’s legitimate income as a government engineer. Sources confirm that financial documents, property records, and digital evidence are also being examined to assess the full extent of his wealth and any potential involvement of others.

The anti-corruption wing’s actions against Baikuntha Nath Sarangi mark one of the most high-profile cases of alleged financial misconduct within Odisha’s public works sector in recent years. The case is likely to send a strong message across the bureaucratic system as vigilance authorities continue to tighten their grip on corruption.

Further updates on the investigation and potential legal proceedings against Sarangi are expected in the coming days, as Odisha Vigilance intensifies its efforts to bring the truth to light.
