Assam: Bijon Tanti Arrested in Cachar for Kidnapping and Sexually Assaulting a 4-Year-Old Girl

A disturbing incident from Assam’s Cachar district has triggered outrage after police arrested a 26-year-old man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a four-and-a-half-year-old girl. Authorities identified the accused as Bijon Tanti, a local resident who reportedly knew the victim’s family.

The incident allegedly took place on March 4, but the case came to light after the child’s family filed a formal complaint with the police two days later.

How the Incident Allegedly Happened

According to police officials, the accused entered the victim’s house at around 5 PM when most family members were away. The young girl was reportedly playing alone inside the house at the time.

Investigators say the accused lured the child by offering to buy her chocolates from a nearby shop. Instead, he allegedly took the girl to his own house.

Authorities believe the crime occurred during this period before the child was later abandoned.

Child Found Near Tea Garden

The girl was eventually found around 7 PM near a tea garden in the area. After being reunited with her family, the child told them that the accused had gagged and sexually assaulted her.

Her father immediately approached the authorities, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

Police Action and Arrest

Following the complaint lodged on March 6, police teams began a search operation to trace the suspect. The effort quickly led to the arrest of Bijon Tanti.

Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials confirmed that the accused is currently in custody while investigators continue to gather evidence.

Medical Examination and Legal Procedure

As part of the legal process, the child’s statement has been recorded by the authorities.

She has also undergone a mandatory medical examination, which is standard procedure in cases involving crimes against minors. Police said the entire process was carried out under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee to ensure the child’s safety and well-being.

Investigation Still Ongoing

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to establish all details surrounding the incident. Authorities are also collecting forensic and witness evidence that could strengthen the case in court.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about child safety and crimes against minors, prompting calls for strict action against the accused.
