In 2018, he briefly served as ISI Chief but was replaced within eight months reportedly due to political interference. Despite that, Munir’s reputation within military circles remained untarnished. He later served as Gujranwala Corps Commander and Quartermaster General at GHQ before being appointed Army Chief in November 2022, succeeding General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
