On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called shooter Manu Bhaker to congratulate her on securing a historic medal at the Paris Olympics. Manu Bhaker won India’s first medal by finishing third in the Women’s Air Pistol event, earning a bronze medal. The 22-year-old shooter made the country proud with her achievement.

During his call with Manu Bhaker, Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in her achievement, praising her for making the country proud. He also expressed confidence that she would perform well in the remaining matches. PM Modi noted that, although she narrowly missed a silver medal by just 0.1 point, her accomplishment was still a great honor for the nation. He also inquired about the facilities at the Paris Olympics.

Reacting to her victory, Manu Bhaker said that winning the medal was a dream come true, not just for her but also for everyone who supported her.

In a post on X, Manu Bhaker expressed her deep gratitude to the NRAI, SAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Coach Jaspal Rana, the Haryana government, and OGQ. She dedicated her victory to the country, thanking everyone for their incredible support and love.

Before calling the accomplished shooter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to X, formerly Twitter, to congratulate her. “A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India’s first medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congratulations on the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the first woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!” PM Modi wrote.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post on X, Manu Bhaker expressed her gratitude, thanking him for his blessings and saying that it meant a lot to her.

“Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, for your blessings. I would like to thank the government for all the support and encouragement. It means a lot,” Manu Bhaker wrote on X.

In the competition, South Korea’s Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, while her compatriot, Kim Yeji, secured the silver with 241.3 points.

President Droupadi Murmu praised Manu Bhaker’s achievement, noting that her success, coming exactly three years after a challenging debut at the Tokyo Games, will inspire many athletes. “Heartiest congratulations to Manu Bhaker for opening India’s medal tally with her bronze medal in the 10-meter air pistol shooting event at the Paris Olympics,” she said.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also celebrated the victory, stating, “A proud moment! @realmanubhaker wins Bharat’s first medal, a BRONZE in Women’s 10m Air Pistol at #ParisOlympic2024!”

“Congratulations, Manu! You have displayed your skill and dedication, becoming the first woman shooter to win an Olympic medal,” he added.

Sports administrator Nita Ambani called it “an incredible moment,” saying, “Our youngest woman shooter has opened India’s tally at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a bronze. Congratulations, Manu Bhaker! As the first Indian woman to win in the 10m air pistol at the Olympics and our youngest Indian shooter to do so, you’ve made history.”
