Nagpur Conversion Case: IAF Officer’s Wife Alleges Rape, Blackmail and Forced Religious Conversion, Two Arrested

A disturbing case involving allegations of rape, blackmail, extortion and forced religious conversion has sparked outrage in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district after a video purportedly showing a young woman pleading during a conversion ceremony went viral on social media.

The case came to light after a 24-year-old married woman approached police with a detailed complaint accusing three individuals of subjecting her to months of intimidation, sexual exploitation and coercion. The woman, whose husband serves with the Indian Air Force and is currently posted outside Nagpur, alleged that she was trapped in a carefully orchestrated scheme that began under the guise of assistance in a personal matter and eventually escalated into a series of serious criminal acts.

According to investigators, two accused identified as Ayyaz Taj Madare and Ameen Shaikh have been arrested, while police teams are searching for a third accused, Hazrat Maulana, a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district. Authorities say the investigation remains active and further arrests are possible as evidence continues to emerge.

Police officials revealed that the complainant and the main accused were acquainted during their school years. The woman alleged that Madare reconnected with her earlier this year, presenting himself as someone willing to help resolve a property-related dispute. What appeared to be a familiar and trusted connection soon turned into an ordeal that she claims changed her life.

According to her statement, she met the accused at a hotel in February 2025. During that meeting, she alleged that she was given an intoxicating substance without her knowledge. She further claimed that compromising photographs and videos were recorded while she was incapacitated. Investigators say these allegations form a critical part of the case and are being examined through forensic and digital analysis.

The woman alleged that the accused subsequently used the images and videos to blackmail her. Threats allegedly included circulating the material publicly and exposing it to her husband. Faced with mounting pressure and fear of social humiliation, she claims she was repeatedly coerced into complying with the demands of the accused.

Police sources said the complainant has alleged that nearly Rs 4 lakh was extorted from her over a period of time. The alleged financial exploitation, investigators believe, may have been linked to a broader pattern of coercion and intimidation designed to maintain control over the victim.

The complaint also contains allegations that go beyond financial and sexual exploitation. The woman told police that she was subjected to rituals involving the consumption of an unidentified liquid and other practices that she described as linked to occult activities. She further alleged that these incidents occurred before repeated sexual assaults.

The case has drawn particular attention because of claims surrounding a religious conversion ceremony. According to the woman, on May 31 she was taken to Kalmeshwar, where a conversion ritual was allegedly conducted against her will. She claimed she was declared converted and married to the main accused despite never providing consent for either action.

A video that has circulated widely online appears to show a woman pleading and asking to be left alone during what social media users have described as a forced conversion process. While the authenticity and full context of the footage remain part of the ongoing investigation, the video has intensified public scrutiny and raised concerns about coercion, religious freedom and the vulnerability of victims facing blackmail.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rushikesh Reddy confirmed that a case has been registered at Sonegaon Police Station. The FIR includes charges related to sexual assault, criminal intimidation and extortion. Authorities have also invoked provisions of Maharashtra’s anti-superstition and anti-black magic legislation, reflecting the allegations involving occult practices and rituals.

Investigators have seized mobile phones and electronic devices believed to contain relevant evidence. Digital forensic experts are examining communications, videos, photographs and other electronic records that could help establish the sequence of events and verify the claims made in the complaint.

The case has quickly become a topic of intense public debate, particularly because it touches on multiple sensitive issues including women’s safety, cyber-enabled blackmail, religious coercion and the misuse of personal relationships for criminal purposes. Legal experts note that cases involving alleged coercive conversion and digital exploitation often present complex evidentiary challenges, making forensic examination crucial to the outcome of the investigation.

For the complainant, the allegations describe a prolonged period of fear, manipulation and pressure that she says left her isolated and vulnerable. For investigators, the task now is to determine the extent of the alleged conspiracy, verify the evidence and establish accountability for those involved.

As police continue their probe, authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete the process based on evidence. With one accused still absconding and digital evidence under examination, the case is expected to remain under close scrutiny in the days ahead.
