A routine military operation turned into a major emergency on Saturday morning after an Indian Air Force (IAF) AN-32 transport aircraft crashed and caught fire while attempting to land at the Air Force Station in Assam’s Jorhat. The incident triggered an immediate response from emergency crews and has prompted a formal investigation into what caused the accident.

According to initial information, the twin-engine transport aircraft went down within the premises of the strategically important airbase during the landing phase of its flight. Moments after the impact, flames and smoke were seen rising from the crash site, leading authorities to rush firefighting and rescue teams to contain the blaze and secure the area.

The crash claimed the lives of two pilots and highlighted the inherent risks faced by military aviators during routine operations.

Defense observers note that while military aviation accidents remain relatively rare considering the scale of operations conducted by the armed forces, each incident undergoes extensive scrutiny.
