For Rahman, the performance marked a significant milestone. It was his first-ever live appearance at the Attari border, a venue that symbolizes both national pride and the complex history shared by India and Pakistan. Against the backdrop of waving tricolours, marching BSF personnel, and enthusiastic crowds, the legendary composer paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of India’s armed forces.

The evening opened on a soulful note with Rahman’s rendition of ‘Chanda Suraj Lakhon Taare, setting a reflective tone for the audience. As the ceremony progressed, the event seamlessly blended patriotism with storytelling through music, offering a glimpse into the soundtrack of filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga.

The film, scheduled for release on June 12, is set against the backdrop of the Partition and explores themes of love, separation, longing, and human resilience. The project brings together a creative trio that has delivered memorable musical successes in the past—AR Rahman, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, and lyricist Irshad Kamil. Their previous collaborations on films such as Rockstar, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila have earned widespread acclaim, making expectations high for their latest venture.

One of the evening’s highlights was the performance of ‘Maskara’, sung by Nilanjana Ghosh alongside actor Vedang Raina, who plays a young man navigating the turbulent years before Partition in the film. The song’s emotional undertones resonated strongly with the audience, many of whom responded with applause and cheers.

The musical journey continued with Ishq Mastana’, performed by popular singer Mohit Chauhan, joined by vocalists Pooja Tiwari and Nargis. Their performance added energy and warmth to the event while reflecting the film’s central themes of love and human connection.

As the ceremony approached its conclusion, Rahman delivered one of his most iconic patriotic compositions, Maa Tujhe Salaam’. The song transformed the venue into a sea of waving flags and emotional faces, with many attendees singing along. The powerful performance served as a fitting finale to an evening dedicated to honoring those who protect the nation’s borders.

The event also brought together key members of the film’s production team, including director Imtiaz Ali, actor Vedang Raina, producer Ananya Birla of Birla Studios, and producer Mohit Choudhary of Window Seat Films. Together, they dedicated the film’s music album to the courage and sacrifice of Indian armed forces personnel.

Speaking about the significance of the occasion, Imtiaz Ali described the performance as an expression of national unity and gratitude toward India’s security forces. He said the event celebrated the spirit of the BSF, the Indian Army, and the values of solidarity and compassion that unite the country.

Ali also reflected on the deeper inspiration behind Main Vaapas Aaunga. According to the filmmaker, the story emerges from the emotional realities of Partition, a period that not only displaced families and communities but also left lasting scars on countless relationships. Through the film and its music, the creators aim to deliver a message of hope, humanity, and enduring love.

The upcoming film features an impressive cast led by Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari Wagh, and Vedang Raina. With its combination of historical context, emotional storytelling, and Rahman’s music, the project has already generated considerable interest among cinema lovers.
