Jurel looked equally confident, timing the ball beautifully and rotating strike smartly.

Their partnership brought Rajasthan back into the match. Shanaka’s run-out against the flow of play briefly slowed the innings, but Jurel continued attacking and looked set for a bigger score before Corbin Bosch produced an excellent yorker to dismiss him for 38.

The biggest surprise came later when Rajasthan promoted Jofra Archer ahead of Ravindra Jadeja during the death overs. The move initially looked risky, but it turned out to be a masterstroke. Archer walked in with complete freedom and immediately started attacking Mumbai’s bowlers. He smashed towering sixes over deep mid-wicket and long-off, turning a decent total into a threatening one within a few deliveries.

His unbeaten 32 off just 15 balls gave Rajasthan crucial momentum in the final overs and pushed them beyond the 200-run mark. Mumbai Indians had done a reasonable job through the middle phase, but Archer’s late assault completely shifted the pressure.

Chasing 206 was never going to be easy, and Rajasthan made the perfect start with the ball. Archer struck in the opening over by dismissing Rohit Sharma for a duck, immediately silencing the Mumbai crowd. He then removed Naman Dhir as well, leaving MI under serious pressure early in the chase.

Ryan Rickelton tried to counterattack with a few boundaries, but Nandre Burger dismissed him soon after. Tilak Varma also failed to survive as Brijesh Sharma rattled his stumps. Mumbai’s innings was in trouble before the powerplay even ended.

Just when the match seemed to be slipping away completely, Suryakumar Yadav stepped up with a much-needed innings. The Mumbai batter finally looked close to his best, playing innovative strokes and finding boundaries regularly against both pace and spin. He targeted Ravindra Jadeja and Yash Raj Punja with confidence and kept the scoreboard moving despite wickets falling at the other end.

Will Jacks supported him for a while with some aggressive shots before throwing away his wicket attempting another big hit. Hardik Pandya then arrived and injected fresh belief into the chase. The Mumbai captain attacked immediately, smashing sixes and boundaries to bring the required rate down quickly.

For a few overs, Rajasthan looked nervous as Hardik and Suryakumar threatened to take the game deep. But once again, Archer delivered at the crucial moment. Returning for his final spell, he hurried Hardik with a sharp bouncer and forced a mistimed shot straight to the fielder.

That wicket completely changed the mood of the game. Archer’s over gave away almost nothing and left Mumbai needing an unrealistic equation in the final overs. Yash Raj followed with another tight over, while Suryakumar’s dismissal later effectively ended the contest.

Mumbai Indians eventually finished on 175 for 9, ending their disappointing season with another defeat. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, celebrated a memorable victory that kept their title hopes alive.
