Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday quietly travelled to Gurugram to meet Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who is currently lodged in Bhondsi jail in connection with an Enforcement Directorate investigation. The visit was not officially announced in advance and quickly became a talking point in political circles after news of their arrival spread.
According to sources familiar with the development, Mann and Kejriwal reached the high-security jail directly from Delhi and completed the formalities required by prison authorities before meeting Arora inside the premises. The leaders reportedly spent time discussing the ongoing legal case and assured the AAP MP that the party stands firmly with him during the difficult phase.
Security around the jail complex was increased during the visit. Police personnel and prison officials closely monitored movement near the entrance as the convoy of the two senior leaders arrived. The sudden presence of top AAP leadership at Bhondsi jail also attracted attention from local political workers and residents in the area.
Sanjeev Arora was recently sent to judicial custody by a court in a case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate. Since then, he has been lodged at the Gurugram prison. While neither the party nor jail officials issued an official statement after the meeting, insiders said the visit was meant to send a clear message of solidarity and support for the MP.
Within the Aam Aadmi Party, the visit is being seen as politically significant. At a time when opposition parties have repeatedly raised questions over investigations involving their leaders, Kejriwal and Mann’s decision to personally meet Arora is being viewed as an attempt to boost morale among party workers and show unity within the organisation.
The development also comes at a sensitive political moment for AAP, particularly in Punjab, where the party is trying to maintain a strong grip on governance while dealing with legal and political challenges involving several senior leaders. Though the details of the conversation inside the jail remain undisclosed, party sources indicated that the leadership wanted Arora to know that he would continue receiving the party’s backing throughout the legal proceedings.
