A sudden fire broke out in a coach of the Sasaram–Patna fast passenger train on Monday morning at Sasaram railway station in Bihar, leaving one coach completely gutted and triggering panic among railway staff. The train was standing at platform number 6 when smoke was first noticed coming out of the compartment.
Within minutes, flames spread rapidly through the coach. Railway staff immediately alerted the fire brigade, and tenders rushed to the spot. Firefighters worked quickly to control the blaze and stop it from spreading to other coaches. Their timely response helped prevent what could have turned into a much bigger disaster.
Preliminary information suggests that a short circuit inside the coach may have triggered the fire, although officials have not confirmed the exact cause yet. Fortunately, the train was not carrying passengers at the time, so no injuries or casualties were reported.
The affected coach was completely damaged in the incident. Railway officials later inspected the site and began an internal inquiry to understand how the electrical fault developed and whether any maintenance lapse was involved.
This incident comes just a day after a similar fire was reported on the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district. In that case, a B-1 AC coach caught fire in the early hours, forcing an emergency evacuation of all passengers. Railway authorities confirmed that all 68 passengers were safely moved out and no one was injured.
Officials said the Rajdhani Express fire spread quickly, but timely action helped detach the affected coach and cut off overhead electric supply to prevent further damage. Train movement on the route was briefly affected, causing delays on the busy Mumbai–Delhi corridor.
During the emergency response in Ratlam, a rescue vehicle carrying railway staff and equipment met with an accident after a stray cow suddenly came onto the road. The vehicle overturned, leaving five people injured, who were later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
